Question of the day - Saturday, January 28th

Good morning!wavey.gif

Sorry I missed last week's question.  I was out of town and my laptop died.

Lately I've been revisiting some of the old TV shows I grew up watching.

What was your favorite show as a kid?

For me, it started out with the Dragon Ball series followed by Dragon Ball Z.  But one of my favorites that I rediscovered after all these years is Dinosaurs.  It's an old show that ran from 1991-1994 on ABC.  I had forgotten how funny it was.  It's great to see it again.

"Emergency!" I was addicted to this show. It was what influenced me to join the Volunteer Rescue in my old town. Best job I ever had. Best show ever.

I used to watch that show all the time, too, because I had the biggest crush on Randolph Mantooth.

Ah, yes, "Emergency."  I remember it well.   And, after that, "Chips."

But long before that, The Red Skelton Show.  My mother's favorite.

And almost no one remembers "Top Cat."

At the risk of showing my age: Roy Rogers, Fury, Rin Tin Tin,, and when they came along, Rawhide and Have Gun, Will Travel. Also liked F Troop, Car 54, Where are You, and The Munsters. No particular favourite just simply watched what was on. TV was not like it was even in the 70s, but would come on around 3PM and went off around 10 and was one channel, then we got 2 in the late 50s. That era was liking most of what was on.......about the only thing I didn't like and still loathe was Hockey Night in Canada - faces have changed, but it is still hockey....BLECH.

I can relate to those shows.    Phil Carter, who played the very heavy cop of Car 54 was a host at a resort in Connecticut that my husband and I went to a few times.     He was a riot - and when he jumped in the pool all the water came out!   I loved Roy Rogers also!

Some shows from later years (I wasn't a kid then) --- the evening soaps,   Dallas, Falconcrest, Dynasty!!   I never missed those - and do you remember Beauty and the Beast?

Here's a little snippet of "Car 54."  If you're good, you can pick out some familiar faces.  For example, the first cop on the phone became "Grandpa Munster."  And the tall cop from car 54 was, of course, Herman Munster, later.

The short, fat cop from car 54 was later in several other shows, including "It's About Time."

I remember Al Lewis and Fred Gwynne both being in Car 54 as well as Joe E. Ross. Also making appearances were Nipsy Russel, Alice Ghostley and Charles Nelson Riley.. I still find shows like this funny whereas the new comedies are usually very unfunny.

Happy Days followed by Laverne and Shirley (on Tuesday night, I think), The Love Boat followed by Fantasy Island (on Saturday night), Night Rider (loved the car!), Dukes of Hazard (love Bo!), Eight is Enough, Little House on the Prairie, too many to name!

Of course, between 4:30 and 7:00 were the syndicated shows like Gilligan's Island, Batman, the Munsters, The Adams Family, The Andy Griffith Show, etc. I much prefer Nick at Night to most prime time shows now.

I always enjoyed Jonny Quest (it was an old cartoon). One of my favorite old shows was Star Trek. I know, I know....camp. Pure camp. But I really liked that show. (I've always been a big Star Trek fan.)
