Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I am tired.  But, we are all moved in.  Everyone's hiding under the bed.

I did EVERYTHING wrong when it came to getting them into the carriers.  Well, the boys went fine - of course they did.  They went together in a big carrier, and it was nice because the top opened up, so I just dropped them in and put the top on, they were fine.  Joni, ugh.  I did everything wrong.  I picked her up and started walking her into the carrier.  She wouldn't go... I got so frustrated and upset and by the time I got her in there ten minutes later we were both crying.  Thankfully she didn't scratch me.  I didn't even have any food or treats to bribe her with because I had already moved them to the new house.  And with me freaking out she just kept tensing up and I couldn't get her in.  Finally I upended the carrier and put her feet first, prying one paw at a time off of the top of it until I got her in there.  She was TICKED and howled the WHOLE TIME we were driving to the new house.  It was awful to hear that... you feel like such a terrible person!

We got to the house and I opened the carriers, Joni shot out and started running everywhere exploring.  Simon & Garfunkel didn't get out of the carrier for several minutes.  They started looking around, hiding under a few things then running to the next place.  I had to head back out for a few hours to get some things so they were just in the house exploring I guess.  I got home and they've been under the bed, except for Joni who's in and out.  They'll probably want to come out about the same time I am wanting to go to sleep...
I'm going to try to feed them here in a bit, I hope they come out!

Over the river and through the woods...
Congrats on a successful move! Simon and Garfunkel will be fine and Joni is probably just happy to be out of the carrier somewhere other than the vets
. When we moved the first time after we had Harley, Monster and LittleOne, we thought Monster would be the scared one. But no, it was LittleOne, our little feisty barn cat kitty that was freaked out. We opened the carrier and she bolted out and found the furthest place she could hide which was behind the dryer. She stayed there until bedtime when we opened the canned food. She finally slunk out (that low to the ground, I'm going to be killed at any minute, type of walk), ate and went back behind the dryer. The next day she finally came out and started exploring and realized nothing was going to kill her so she started to relax.

I tell you one thing, I am SO tired of moving! 4 times in 6 years is enough for me. But we learned to bring LittleOne first so she can get used to the place before we bring the others.

I feel for you! I'm moving too... with 3 cats.

Because my apartment is being exterminated tomorrow, I have to get my 3 cats to the vet in the morning so they can be boarded for the day.  Getting Spencer and Abby into carriers won't be an issue.  Katie on the other hand!!! OMG!  Both her and Spencer are going into one carrier, and Abby into another.

Then next week on the 4th, I have to do it all over again to get them oved to the end of the hall, where all 3 will be in the bathroom while things are being moved in.

Upending the crate is a good idea.  I had a hard time getting Abby into a carrier when she was younger, but someone from here recommended doing it that way and it worked well enough that I've been doing it like that ever since.

Congratulations! When I moved to this apartment, Holland spent the better part of the first week under my comforter. It didn't take too long though for her to realize she was still the princess, just the princess of a new place.
As skittish and shy as she's always been, one thing that has always amazed me is how adaptable she is. We've technically lived in 5 different places in the 3+ years I've had her, and she always bounces back.

I also hear you about the carrier. I learned early on that I've basically got to trick Holland to get her in there. The last time I moved I picked her up, but she spotted the carrier and wriggled away from me. This was in my mom's basement, where she had nearly unlimited hiding space. I was afraid I'd never get her (she WAS the final part of that move!). I ended up finding some chicken in my mom's fridge, I brought some on a plate down to the basement, and got her to come check it out. I still feel bad about it, but I grabbed her and plopped her in the carrier before she even ate any. I always try to give her treats IN the carrier, but she never eats them. She usually cries for about the first 5 minutes in her carrier but then settles down, but this last move she cried ALL the way to the apartment - about half an hour from my mom's place. Oh, it broke my heart!

I'm so happy your little folk trio is home, and I'm sure they'll be back to themselves in no time!

Thanks y'all!!!!!  I'm pleased to report things are going REALLY well.  They are my confident kitties after all!  Garfunkel has perked up (he hasn't been feeling well for about 36 hours or so) and everyone ate a wet meal and they are walking and sniffing all over the house - and Simon is even doing some climbing.  They still jump a bit at any noises, but overall I'm really pleased.  I'm showered & ready for bed, so here's hoping for a good night's sleep!

Holland is the sweetest.
But yes, heartbreaking to hear them cry! Joni had such a horrible, pitiful, low-pitched howl, like I was hurting her... we both cried on that car ride!  It was about 30 minutes for us too.  But, we're here, and they seem happy!  I've got some pictures below.

Hope you had a good night's sleep! Congrats on the move.....I know the cats will be very happy in their new home and so will you!

Thank you!  I did sleep well, which I was so worried about since we're all in one room.  Simon woke me up a few times doing laps around my head, but I was able to go right back to sleep.  I think it's a combination of being tired from moving, sleeping in a cool, dark space again, and being on my old bed from my parents' - I couldn't fit the double in here so I'm back to a twin!  lol!  Good thing I'm single!
Anyway, all factors combined to a very restful sleep even with the cats!  Here's hoping it continues!

Here are some pictures of the kitties settling in:

Well, first, here was my solution to the pull cords on the blinds - why, yes, I AM a genius!  3M hooks!

Garfunkel (still feeling a bit poorly) and Joni relaxing on the new bed.  DON'T judge my Strawberry Shortcake sheet, I don't have any twin sheets anymore so I had to borrow from my parents' linen closet, and this was the only option.
I'll buy some adult sheets in a few pay periods.

We have VERY large windows that go almost to the floor, and double doors that are 80% window as well.  Here's Simon watching Kitty TV out one of the doors:

And a picture from outside as he looks out from one of the windows:

I think they're happy here already, and I know I am.  They haven't quite figured out those great shelves I showed you guys, but once they do they are going to love them!
