This article was on the chicago tribune's website. It makes me livid.

Cops: Man kicked his kitten like a football

A Southwest Side man has been charged with animal cruelty after kicking his kitten like a football, police said.

Officers saw Percy Love, 22, take a running start and kick his black kitten Monday afternoon, sending the kitten 15 to 18 feet into the air, according to a police report.

Love then placed both his arms up in the air as if to signal a "field goal," and began laughing, the report stated.

When the officers moved to arrest Love, he told them, "This is my cat, Nightmare. He is tough, we play like that all the time -- it's just a cat," the report said. The incident happened in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue.

The kitten was taken to the city's Animal Care and Control agency, the report said.

Love, of the 6500 block of South Maplewood Avenue, was charged with animal cruelty, police said.

Animal Care and Control spokeswoman Cherie Travis said the kitten, less than a year old, did not suffer life-threatening injuries but vets were taking x-rays today.

During a hearing Tuesday, the city agency was given ownership of the kitten, Travis said. "He's a very friendly cat," Travis said. "Hopefully he'll be up for adoption soon."

Love was ordered held on $50,000 bail.

Let's kick him like a football and see if it's so funny.

Poor baby!!  I am glad the kitty is going to be alright. I hope he gets adopted by someone who will love the stuffing out of him. I hope the judge throws the book at that guy.

Now see, this is why guns shouldn't be outright banned in America, so that people like this can be put to justice at the hands of the citizenry.

(PS -- I am joking. But seriously. Life without parole. It's a KITTEN.)

Why was this topic moved? Way more people check the cat lounge than breaking mews (I know lots of members here avoid IMO altogether because of the drama), which is why I put it there.

"Breaking Mews" is a sub category of "IMO".  So since this is a news story, that's likely why it was moved to this forum.

:yeah: The Lounge and its sub-forums are where people go to relax, have fun and/or discuss what's going on in their lives, i.e., they're not suitable for upsetting reports. Animal abuse stories belong in S.O.S. or, if they appear in newspaper reports, in Breaking Mews. This policy was instituted following complaints by members that the Lounge experience was being ruined for them by exposure to such stories. This way it's easier for members to avoid them should they choose to do so.

It makes me feel physically ill to think of this.  I have a sailor's mouth far too inappropriate for this forum, so you can imagine what I'm calling him in my head.  I hope he goes to jail.

When Mr. Love gets to prison, I hope there's over-celebration in his end zone. And the ref doesn't see it in time to throw a penalty flag.

"Just a cat." What a *bleep*. I hope he goes to prison, and honestly, I hope horrible things happen to him there.
