Hello.

I need some advice regarding my cat's eating habits. Last year in November, one of our cats passed away. This made the other one very sad and depressed and he lost a lot of weight in his depression. But thankfully he has now gotten over the loss of his friend.

Recently (around 3 months ago) our cat's appetite has suddenly increased. He has gained a considerable amount of weight. What I'm afraid of is the effect this weight is having on his health. He is now 13 years old. Is this related in any way to his kidneys as I've heard that a lot of cats die of kidney failure.

I'm aware of the fact that our cat is quite old now but I want him to be happy for his last days.

Any advice would be appreciated

To be honest, any sudden changes in an older cat should be addressed with your veterinarian. Usually the food intake doesn't mean a kidney problem. You usually see more of a water intake. I would take your kitty to the vet and discuss a good maintnace diet as well as a chemistry/CBC blood panel to check all the body functions.
