Okay, so I have a year and a half old cat. We've only had a few months now.We adopted him from Petsmart. His name is Timber but we call him Timmy. Last night before I went to bed I noticed he had puked what must have been earlier in the day. I had spent most of my time downstairs doing mid-term reviews and other homework. He greeted me like he normally does with his little chirps and getting down all low. He wasn't acting different or anything. Well a little bit before bed he threw up again this time it was liquid with a tiny wad of hair in it so I assumed it was just a hairball. He acted normal afterward. Got up in the bed with me and went to sleep.

When I woke up this morning I went to go leave my room and his water bowl was empty so I went and filled it up. I brought it back and went on about my normal morning routine. Before I left for school Timmy went to the bathroom and I heard him fart which he has never done before. So I waited to make sure everything was all right. When I looked in the litter box he had diarrhea. It was dark brown (dunno if this will help anyone with figuring out what this is). After he had had diarrhea I went downstairs to get a bag to clean it out and left him to finish his business in his litter box. Well when I came back up he had gotten his diarrhea foot prints everywhere and on my bed too. I picked him up off of my bed and put him on the floor. After that he puked again. But this time it was all liquid and you could see the color of his food in it a little as well. But it was so much liquid that came up. It was like he hadn't eaten anything since the first time he puked. Idunno if this happened because he drank bad water because I gave him the rest of my water from school out of my Hello Kitty water bottle a couple nights ago. It was water out of a water fountain at my school. I also don't know if it's from going all night without water and then drinking a **** ton all at once that made him sick or he got into something in my room because that's where he pretty much lives right now since my other cat Sabrina hasn't relaxed about him yet. I kept his litter box next to his water and food too. That could have been it too.

I just remembered that I also found another spot where he must have puked at night and it was like the color of his food but you could tell that it was liquidy and not like your normal run of the mill chunky normal "oh god ate too much and too fast" cat puke. My other cat would do this when she would eat string, but my room is a string free enviorment just so that won't happen. The only string I have is Timmy' s shoelace toy c: And another thing that I just thought of too, was that he wouldn't play with the string he just looked at. He is still a big kitten so him not playing is a little weird.

I just want him to be okay and not be super sick. We can't afford to get him an expensive surgery if he needs it or expensive medication. I just hope it's something that a home remedy can fix or that one of you guise have gone through with your cats. I know I haven't had him all that long but he is already like my best friend. I just want my snuggle buddy and napping buddy back up to his old self. Sorry this is so long

the advice to give is to contact your vet, phone at least...   ASAP

WHAT is it, is difficult to know.

Is he dewormed?  Is he and your other cat only indoor?  Or do they get out sometimes?

Worms can give such symptoms.

Not clean dishes or washes can also give such symptoms.  Cats manage bacterias much better than humans, but enough is enough for them too...

So from now on; clean dishes for the cat, clean water...

PS.  It may of course be something worse, we cant know as yet. The vet will hopefully discover.

ok, if he pukes so often, and has diarrhea, he must have more water, AND salts, electrolytes.

He is losing them very fast.

So, you must see a vet.

but while you wait for this vet, you can give him some home made pedialyte.

the most basic is

1 litere water,

1 soup spoon dextrose (winegrapesugar) sugar, if you dont have honey or white caro syrup,  if you dont have any of this common sugar should do.

1 tea spoon kitchen salt.

Heat up and stir till it cookes,  cool down into body temperature.

This basic pedialyte is used also for humans, very effective against for example cholera. saving tousends of tousends humans every year.

If he drinks himself, good, if not - you must forcefeed him.

YOu know how to do it?  In the corner of the mouth, NOT into the neck

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!    *vibes*

The first guess would be getting into something he shouldn't have, such as a houseplant or something.  The next guess would be an obstruction, caused by eating something.  Worms are not an impossibility.

If he's had no previous problems, it's not likely an internal parasite like giardia or coccidia, unless you let him go outside.

But the gas with diarrhea is likely an important clue to a vet.

Welcome to TCS and so very sorry Timmy is so sick. I would not wait at all - this cat needs a vet right away. Vomiting and diarrhea can be a sign of many things from simple to serious. Please let us know how Timmy is doing. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

He is dewormed and has all his shots. Both my cats are indoor cats. The most Sabrina has been outside is to poke her nosey little head out to see what's going on. I clean the dishes once a week. Usually every Monday if not on Sunday. My other cat is fine. She hasn't had any of the puking.

Timmy is comes out from underneath my bed long enough to pee and take a quick drink but is not eating.

As said,  ASAP to the vet.

And while you wait for opening of the vet place, make this pedialyte, probably you should forcefeed him already.

Pedialyte NOT instead off, but to use the time for best way.

The first the vet will do is surely to give him water with injection, so this cost you can spare.

ps.  As he is dewormed and inside only, it shouldnt be worms. It was otherwise the easy case.

It may be some bacteria or micro-parasite infection.  Easy and cheap to handle for the vet, but vet ASAP is a must.    AND watering up, including elecrolytes (salts).

OR it is something else, easy to cure or not so easy to cure, and you still need a good vet and watering up with electrolytes and clean water...

He may go down very fast otherwise.

Good luck!    *vibes*

You clean his dishes once a week?  Yuck.  Mine get a clean dish at least once a day, I found some very cheap stainless ones ($1) that can go in the dishwasher and brought several of them.  They will last forever I suspect.

The crucial thing is fluids.  Make up the rehydration solution, no real need to boil unless your tap water isn't drinkable, sugar and salt both dissolve easily.  If it's right it tastes slightly sweet and slightly salty.  Use a teaspoon and gently and slowly pour 2-3 teaspoons into the corner of his mouth.

And take him to the vets ASAP.  It's quite possible that all he needs is rehydration and he's get over whatever it is on his own.  without rehydration he could become a very sick cat very quickly, and kittens get really ill quicker than adult cats.

I understand your problems but it sounds as if this little guy is very sick. I know you want him to be 'OK' but if he is vomiting and has diarrhea it means his system is trying very hard to get rid of something that he can't manage to process. It could be a physical blockage or it could be something he has eaten that is poison or just upsetting his stomach. Or it could be worms or an infection. And meanwhile, as Stafan says, he is losing fluid that is not being replaced and he will become dehydrated very quickly. But he MUST see a vet. Otherwise he could be dead in days. Somehow you must find the means. Can your parents not help?

I hope he gets better. When he does, you must change your routine with him and look after his hygiene. Keep his bowls clean - would you like to eat off dirty plates everyday? They can carry infection and attract flies. And never give him water from anything but a clean source, either the tap or a fresh bottle, changing it every day. You obviously care about him, but caring leads to responsibility and he only has you to look out for him.

Well today he is back to his old self. He's not vomiting anymore. He still has little diarrhea but it's nothing compared to yesterday. He's being super affectionate again and he is eating and drinking like normal. And I don't see the reason to clean his water bowl everyday when I rinse and give him fresh water every morning. That's why I only hot soapy water once a week since it gets a scolding hot rinse every morning. I also can't clean his food dish every day because we let him just pick at it whenever he feels hungry instead of having set feeding times.

Another thing that proved that he's feeling better is when I got home from school today all he wanted to do was play. He was chasing his shoelace and launching himself over the bed. Thanks for all the advice c:  Oh and he isn't lethargic anymore. He's acting as if yesterday was just an upset tummy day. But again he seems to be 110% better today. No puking. Just slight diarrhea. It's not as watery as it was. You can see a some solidity to it. As I am writing this he's munching away on his food c:

That's sounding good.  The diarrhea indicates some sort of digestive upset; maybe he ate a bug or something.  You just never can tell.

Wonderful news!

So why us being anxious?  Our alarm?

it was much like a russian roulette.  With a little luck it goes over after one day.  But we all experienced forumists had seen forumists tell their cat did collapsed and went, in such one sequence.  Exactly the same symptoms.

Even horror of the horrors - when forumists told - "ah, you can surely await a little to the next day".  But the cat died at the vet the next day.

Im grateful to fate I was one of the few who at least did mentioned she should go to the vet.  (a swedish forum)

That learned me not to wait if the cat is apparently ill. That such cases can go downhill pretty fast.

Not just because they are sick, but by sheer dehydration + losing of salts.

Tell me, did you used this home pedialyte I and Oriental Slave recommended?

The Angel of Death  was passing by near your home, knocked on, but decided not to enter and went some elsewhere.  Luck and Mercy was whith you and Timmy.

Be grateful.  Thank God if it is your inclination. Show your gratitude in some suitable way.

I would suggest help someone in need. Animal or human.  Do it as is convenient to you, as long as the help is real.

Good luck!

Very glad he is feeling better. I am sorry if I sounded harsh about the washing of the bowls. You did not say that you rinsed the water bowl every day - that is good. But even if you leave food in his bowl, please try to keep it clean - it is very easy to empty the kibble into something else while you rinse the bowl. And wet food should always be thrown away after a few hours if it is not eaten, and the bowl cleaned. It can go bad very quickly and cause upsets like the one he has just had.

Please keep posting and let us know how he is. And we always like to see pictures of cats.

This is what Timmy looks like. And as I was making the home pedialyte I came upstairs to check on him and he was eating and drinking so I just let him drink the water I had given him earlier in the day.
