When going to the vet to get nails clipped back isan;t a real viable option what is a better way. Normaly I would do it my self but if you follow along on my other thread its not a option right now with  mousy. I know they need to be clipped back and I am probably going to have them clip her nails when I take her for a checkup next month but There has to be some kind of way to get them clipped without stressing her out and getting me bit and clawed half to death. I belive the lenght her nails are right now is partialy to blame for her claws getting stuck in things and getting torn to the point of bleeding slightly.

Since you're taking Mousy for a checkup next month, you should bring some Softpaws with you and ask them if they can apply them while she's there. I have never used them, but I know there are people here who have, so I'm not sure how long they stay on the claws, but that could at least be a temporary solution until she calms down enough for you to trim her.

I realy have never been able to trim her my self I always have to have someone help me to hold her. Its just so tramatic for her and stresser her out way to much.

Have you tried waiting till she's very sleepy and then clipping just one claw at a time? Have a treat ready for her so she forgets about being upset.

:yeah: This is how we train all our cats to have their nails clipped, no matter the age at which they're rescued. I wait until they're asleep, actually. I have clippers ready, and clip ONE claw, and immediately put a treat down. I do one claw a day in rotation. When they get used to that, I bump it to two - or as many as they can take before the treat. It takes time, but usually within a couple of weeks to a month, they sit on your lap patiently while you do one paw, give them treats, and then the next paw, and give them treats. :D

Smokie never had problems, and bandit would not hear of it at first.

I now wait until he is asleep and do one paw then another etc, focusing on the longest nails and going from there

I make it a habit to rb my adoptees feet while watching tv and lazing about...this seems to get them used to me attacking with the clippers, the back feet are still difficult, i also find just cutting the tips off every week seems to stress them out less than doing a large trim, i also dont have to worry about cutting too far!

This is almost exactly the way I handled it except I added a step.  I put a towel in the dryer for a sec and warmed it up.  I wrapped Swiffer (she was the absolute worst to trim out of all 4 of them) in the towel and then did exactly as you did.  Now as soon as she sees the towel she's all ready for her nail trim and her feline Greenies snacks.
