Good Morning, Everyone. Since I get so very confused so easy, I can't remember if I've visited this forum before. If not, then I'm here to introduce myself and my two 7-year-old male cats, Izzy and Pinky. They were litter mates, born within minutes of each other and they have not been apart since then. Of course, I think they are the sweetest cats in the world. Especially Izzy. He just loves to cuddle. Pinky is a little bit more of a loner, but he will climb into my lap for a snooze. Then Izzy gets jealous and tries to climb in with us, making for a rather large lapful of cats. Pinky weighs about 7.5 pounds and Izzy weighs almost 8. And they are both terribly spoiled. But then, why not? Isn't that what cats are for? lol
These two boys are my first experience with cats--I always had dogs before--and I am very surprised to learn that everything I thought or knew about cats is wrong. I had always thought cats were very aloof and only wanted to be fed and watered and then pretty much just went their own way. Not the case with my guys. Except when they are sleeping, they are almost always by my side, helping me with my chores, talking to me, telling me about their day, etc. At least that's how it seems to me as I can totally understand their vocalizations. When they're hungry, they lead me to their food dishes. When they need to use the litter box, if it's not clean enough they will sit in front of me and stare at me until I get up and go clean it. Get the idea? Since I live alone, it is very nice to have someone to talk to. lol Being "teenage boys," they do like to have a little fight once in awhile. Then the next I see them they are asleep, curled up around each other, snoring away. They sleep with me at night and it just cracks me up when the two of them get snoring. Some times I have to wake them up in order for me to get any sleep.
After I moved to the country, everyone said I should have a cat or two to keep the mice at bay. I first got two cats, who stayed outside, but some wild animal got both of them. That just broke my heart. When I got Izzy and Pinky I made the decision that they would be strictly indoor cats, and to heck with the mice. Other than going in their carriers to the vets, they have never been outside. They do, however, do a good job of catching the odd fieldmouse that sneaks into the house, so, I guess they are earning their keep.
Recently, I had to take Izzy to the vet because he was throwing up all over the place. Turns out he has pancreatitis. The cure? A strict diet of very expensive prescription cat food. I'm pretty sure he is all cured now as I've not had a throw-up for many, many weeks. A blood test in about six weeks will confirm it, I hope. Pinky has been doing a lot of sneezing. First I thought it was because of the dry, heated air here in the house, but I'm worried that it might be more. He will see the vet this coming Thursday. Sometimes he sneezes so hard that his nose bleeds. That's what worries me. Maybe he got a bug up his nose or something. Have any of you had this happen to your cats?
Well, I could go on all day talking about my boys. The day they came into my life is one of my very best days and I'm looking forward to at least another 10 years of their company.
