From the bottom of my heart I am asking all of you to please keep my two precious kittens Blaze and Knox in your thoughts/prayers over the weekend they are at the Vet's office in critical condition after coming in contact with a chemical in the house...Please send as many of those amazing TCS vibes as you can spare our way...I cant sleep eat or sit still until I know they are ok...our other cat Peyton misses them as well, he has been running around the house calling them all evening...Thanks in advance everyone!! I will post an update as soon as I know something.

What a relief!

Just for the edification of our members, would you mind telling us what chemical they got into, how they got into it, and what treatment was given for it?  It's the rare bad experience that can't help others of us learn better how to take care of our fur people.

The chemical in question was a dollar store cleaner called BAB-O Gel with Bleach, kept under the kitchen counter, the bottle had turned over and was leaking...Blayze and Knox(renamed Leo) came into contact with the cleaner sometime late Friday night, early Saturday morning when DH and I woke up Saturday morning I noticed both of their chins were saturated in their saliva...and were very lethargic...we rushed to the Vets office, they were immediately taken back and given 1 part activated charcoal to 6 parts water and started on fluids to flush the chemical through their tiny little systems...and the wait began(this was the worst part) the vet called at 4 pm to let me know they were still alive but in critical condition and told me that even waiting 10 minutes to bring them in and both would not have made it...10:45 am on Sunday morning she called and said they were doing great and ready to come home. They were prescribed 2ml of calafate(sp) twice daily, which will help to coat their mouths and tummys and aide in preventing further damage. Preventive Method DH and I have taken to make sure this never happens again, we bought child safety locks for all cabinets in the house and also bought a sterlite plastic tub with the lid latches that lock for the storage of every single house hold cleaner we have!!!

I am so glad your kittys are going to be okay.  Many cats are really attracted to the smell of bleach, some will react to the smell in the same way that they react to catnip.  The smell of bleach probably was what made the cleaner so attractive to them.

You know Bab-o was a common cleaner back in the '50's, I think.  A sink cleanser, if I recall the ads correctly.

Thank you for letting us know.  It's easy for us to forget the really nasty stuff we have in our kitchens and bathrooms.
