Tumor removal

Could someone give me some advice on tumor removal? Princess (18) has a tumor on her front right leg. Her vet told me that it's not cancer, but that the area where the tumor is located has thin skin. That she would have to cut her paw off. It's been bleeding lightly and scabbing over. I want it gone but not if she has to lose a paw.

The best thing you can do in this situation is to have a board certified surgeon look at the area and give you his/her opinion. The expert knowledge of a board certified specialist can make a tremendous difference when it comes to certain surgeries. Under no circumstances go ahead without a referral to a board certified specialist. Or, if necessary, find one on your own by contacting the vet school nearest you.

I really hope the paw can be saved.

Did your vet discuss other options for this? Is she in pain from the tumor?

I'd get a second opinion on this one. Losing a foot at the age of 18 will stress this girl a lot, and if the tumor is not cancerous or causing any real discomfort, why put her through it? Putting her under for the surgery is stress enough for a cat that old. Losing a foot is dramatic.

Please get another opinion on this.
