Maybe 29th Street will finally get its grocery store.  Wild Oats never got their headquarters open and Whole Foods didn't need it as they were expanding their 30th Street store.  What will be interesting is how Trader Joe's handles the liquor laws.  They can only have one store with a liquor store connected with it.
Same here in NYC. They now have 3 stores (yay), but only one wine store. I have to jump on a subway and travel downtown to stock up on my "3 Buck Chuck's" wine. I love their wine. It's really good, and they have some other labels that are cheaper than other stores.

The Israeli couscous is very good.....that's usually what we have on hand. Trader Joe's has some delicious rice trilogies and combinations, too. They are wonderful....I buy them every chance I get. I used to have to buy Muir Glen tomato products at TJ's. Thankfully, when our Giant opened the new store, they included a great organic section and they now carry Muir Glen tomatoes. I like frozen artichoke hearts and neither our Giant nor our Weis stores carry them. TJ's has them, so we'll buy five or six bags. (When we go to CT or to Phila, we always have to take our ice chest with us to keep things as cold as we can for the trip back home.)

Oh, has anybody ever bought any of their breads? They're delicious, too.

Mmm, they sound like a great store. Good prices too. I'd love to check them out if we go to the States again.

My guess is that Trader Joe's avoids acknowledging the Aldi connection for the same reason Chipotle or Boston Market never mentioned the McDonald's connection.  There's just too much baggage there.

I'll have to go over there when they open in Foat Wuth.

Congrats! I love Trader Joe's, they have lots of good products and the prices are great! There are 3 in Long Beach, he closest one about 2 miles away. My cats LOVE their tuna cat food, if it weren't tuna, I'd give it to them everyday because it's 59 cents a can! They chicken and turkey ones they aren't so crazy about, but there aren't any by-products or other nasty stuff in them, so I try once in a while, just to see if they changed their tastes.. ;)

I also like the Two Buck Chuck wines- being in CA, we get it for $1.99! Their Christmas Ale is great too, brewed by Unibroue from Quebec. We always get a few bottles, some to drink, some to age a year or 2.

The Aldi connection make sense though, since they have mostly imported stuff at cheap prices. It's probably the same stuff Aldi gets but in Trader Joe's packaging. So... probably not the best business practices behind the scenes then. But their foods, or most of what I've had anyway, seem to be pretty good quality, so who knows. Their breads are great, cheeses good, I LOVE their pickles, BF loves their frozen curries.. good stuff. The employees are always in a good mood too, I love that!

However, since Sprouts opened about 2 miles away in the other direction, I go there a lot more. Parking lot isn't as crazy, and they have lots of good stuff and good prices. I think of it as kind of a Whole Foods at Trader Joe's prices.

And of course I still like Ralphs and Vons/Pavillions, I just love grocery shopping, I'm weird like that.
But I prefer Sprouts and Trader Joe's for most things.

Funny you should say that. I'm totally obsessed with grocery stores. I love grocery shopping too!!:lol3: I sometimes have to look in my freezer and my cabinets (I live in a studio apartment) and say to myself, "Okay. Stop now for awhile, you've got enough food on hand." :D

Their breads are outrageous. I have to check myself, because good bread is something I can just go crazy eating. :lol3:

But I always get their whole wheat sandwich thins, as they're 1 WW Pts. Plus lower than Arnold or Pepperidge Farm. Also their whole wheat English muffins are really good.

We have a fairly new Sprouts nearby.  Anything in there you want to recommend?

Sprouts has good produce, and there's always something on sale so it's super cheap. Other than that, they're similar to whole foods (pricey).
