Long story short, but today I found a young black kitty stuck in the top of a very tall tree. This was nowhere near my own neighborhood,  but a very nice lady and I walked over to the local fire dept. to see if they could help. Turned out they were an engine company, but even if they had a ladder, they are not allowed to help in this situation in our city.

I don't have a cellphone, but when I got home I called a very nice animal control officer who had helped me two summers ago. She told me that, in her experience, almost every cat will eventually come out of the tree, no matter how scared they are. She did tell me, though, that if the cat is still there tomorrow that I should call her back. She told me that she can call in a favor to the fire department and they will come out and help her.

This has made me feel so very bad. It is quite cold here tonight and the poor little kitty was kicking up such a ruckus. It's obviously terrified to leave its perch. So I will return to that neighborhood tomorrow and see if it is still there.

Can anyone give me any comfort in this situation? I will be praying all night that the kitty will not be in the tree tomorrow when I go there again.

Just reading this now...what happened?  Was the kitty still there today?  I'm very surprised that the fire department didn't "come to the rescue".  So much for marketing!  Isn't that what we've all seen the fire department do...rescue kittens from trees?

that someone helped this baby find his way down!!

If it makes you feel any better, there was once a tall tree across the street from my house and an older kitten or young cat got stuck up it. For three days he yowled for help; it was heart-breaking. Myself and neighbors tried to coax it down with food. WE even got out a ladder but it came nowhere near enough to get a hold of the cat. At one point he came down to a lower section of branch and looked like he was going to make a jump for it to the ground, but then chickened out. We called animal control etc and nobody could help. After three days we finally got him to jump down, and he scarfed down the food we set out for him and went on his way.

This is what I've been told, too.  A long time ago, our Kikko got up a power pole.  He was up there for about 3 nights and 4 days.  The fire dept. DID respond and a fireman climbed the pole and grabbed him, stuffed him in his jacket, and delivered him to us, unharmed but very hungry, thirsty and upset.  Sure do hope the little guy comes down soon and that he has a safe place to go to.
