Hello I everyone. I have been reading the posts in here but had not figured out how to join until recently. Anyway I have been a cat trapper for about a year now. I want to introduce myself. I always liked cats...and one night I was sitting outside a business when I saw cats in the bushes. I went to 7-11 and got food. Well after sitting for a bit a woman drove up and got out of her car and checked out the food I had put out. I told her about the cats and she informed me that it was a feral cat colony and she had been feeding them for 5 years..She had trapped and TNRed them. I then told her I had spotted a couple of cats behind the supermarket in my neighborhood. So after some education trapped those cats and got them neutered. Since then I have gotten into the trapping pipeline and last year I trapped about 80 cats and returned them. I rescued some kittens and feed a whole bunch. Nice to meet you all

Welcome, welcome, welcome!  And God bless you.  You will find plenty of comraderie here and lots of support.  How are the TNR laws in your area?  Some of us struggle with some real anti-cat sentiments in our areas and it can be discouraging.  But 80 cats -  whoopee!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
   SO wonderful to hear! And welcome to TCS! You've definitely found the right place if you love cats and especially the feral kitties!

:woohoo: on 80 more kitties not being able to reproduce! :bigthumb:

DH and I got adopted by a stray 11 years ago now - learned about TNR here, and never looked back. :lol3: Well - did some rescue work along the way. 8 of those feral kitties now live inside with us full time. So... how many are living inside with you? :D

DH and I got married in Gig Harbor. :D

:wavey:

So far I have only one feral cat...we had 2 cats already and hubby and I have 2 parrots..bringing in lots of cats was never an option..since I work and hubby is retired he does all the cat box stuff and caring for them. I cannot force more on him..I took in this one and I am surprized he agreed to it.

Okay..just a little tip about taming a feral down. I read somewhere..maybe in here that when trying to get a feral to come to you it is important that you use your fist at first..like a little head bump..fingers extended look like long claws to a cat..So I tried this and the cat is coming around way more. I wait until he sniffs my fist then I open my hand to pet his head after my hand is over his head and he cannot see the fingers. He doesn't mind the petting right now but at times I still scare him. Also it is SO true in looking at them straight into their eyes. I speak softly but try not to stare as that is interpreted as agression. I am learning as I go.

Sounds good - how you are approaching this kitty. I have one suggestion, instead of going OVER the head with your hand, go under the chin and give a gentle scritch and go to the back of the ear and back down again. That is less threatening that way and FEELS SO GOOD :lol3:

AWW Your husband sounds just wonderful to care for the kitties :hugs: AND what a nice surprise that he didn't reject this one :happy3: Much, much continued luck :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
