Untergrating Mao-wow

Hello everyone, I have posted about this subject last summer, and still need help. We have 2 girls misty and Rusty, but in the summer we ended up with moa-wow, an 11 month old stray. He has been seen to by the vets and had the snip.

As advice, I gave him his safe room, which happens to be my bedroom, and we also have a massive cage in the lounge, he goes into when we try and get him and his sisters to bond.

At first Misty always hissed, but gradually she has reduced the amount, to just when she enters the room. Rusty comes in and gets on the settee and ignores him.

Misty will sit and stare at him from about a meter and a half away, but if she has to walk past the cage, within inches, she hisses and gets a bit aggressive.

People keep telling me to just throw them all together to fight it out and sort out who is boss. But I find this method cruel.

What can I do?

I also want to add that as Mao-wow is in my bedroom, I'm sleeping on the settee, as its impossible to sleep in the same room as him.

Please any advice would be appreciated xx

Here are a couple of articles that can give you ideas on how to take Mao-wow to the next level.

Katachtig gave you some great articles to get started with.

Overall, you're doing well to keep things slow - throwing them in together would likely cause more problems, so you're right in not doing that. Some cats really do take quite awhile to warm up to one another. My Freya still hisses at Wendel every now and then and he's been here over a year. rolleyes.gif

One thing you can try is to keep a blanket or towel in the room with Mao-wow, then switch it out to where the other cats are so that they get used to his scent. You can also try putting a dab of vanilla on them when they're together, that way they all smell the same to one another.

Good luck!

Thank you for the replies. I have given the girls one of mao-wows blankets today. They just keep moving away from it. Although Rusty fell asleep on it earlier, a bit unaware!! I never thought it would be this hard x
