Fun to speculate -- what does Kramer look like?

Hi all wavey.gif

Now before I say anything, I know that without papers, Kramer is just a tabby and white domestic shorthair. But, I think it can be fun to speculate about what breeds might make up our moggies smile.gif (My apologies if this isn't an appropriate thread for the Breeders' Corner!)

My thoughts are that Kramer somewhat resembles an American Shorthair because of his head shape and body type. I know his head isn't round enough to be a purebred (obviously laughing02.gif) but it's much rounder than Boots' head. He also has more of a muscular body type than Boots, who is oriental-ish.

Here he is! I tried to get different angles so you could see head and body shape.

If I'm totally off-base, I'd love to hear ideas about what else he might look like, or if he even looks like any breed at all. laughing02.gif It's super hard to get him to look at the camera, but I can try to get better pictures if you need me to.

Now, he does have some significant personality differences from the ASH. He's certainly not quiet; he's one of the most vocal cats I've ever met, and I've had friends with purebred Siamese cats. He's definitely a lap snuggler and a purrbucket a good bit of the time. He also LOVES to meet strangers and guests, and will trot right up for a pet and headbumps as soon as they walk in the door. He likes to sleep in strange places (especially in the washing machine), but he isn't a Professional Adventurer like Boots is. He will stalk a bug if it gets in, though.

Anyway, TIA for the replies. wavey.gif

He is a handsome boy, but I think you are tackling the question of what breed he resembles from the wrong angle. In fact, our 'moggies' are not descended or 'made up' from breeds, but the other way round. Most recognised breeds for pedigree purpose were bred out of the domestic population, selecting desirable traits. So even breeds such as the Siamese or the Persian were originally bred from the domestic population in those parts of the world again emphasising features like the flat face or large ears over many generations to produce the standard breed patterns we see today. And breed societies are still changing their ideas of desirable characteristics today and breeders respond to that.
So your domestic cat will most likely not have any 'breed' ancestors, but will naturally have some traits of character or appearance that also exist in pedigree cats of whatever sort. Haaving said that, of course often we can say that our own cats have 'eyes as green as a Russian blue' or are 'as vocal as a Siamese', or 'as large as a Maine Coon' or whatever. It is purely a way of describing them, not a reference to any possible ancestry.

Good point! I worded it wrong up there. Instead of asking what breeds make up Kramer, I should have asked what breeds Kramer's ancestors helped make. laughing02.gif

He looks a lot like the domestic cats in Japan to me. American cats look different. . .hard to explain really. But when we moved back to the States I noticed it right away. Look up some Youtube videos made by Japanese cat owners and see if you agree. Maybe his ancestors were the mousers on a Japanese cargo ship!

LOL, I like making up stories for my moggies, too laughing02.gif.

I wouldn't be able to tell at all! laughing02.gif He looks like an American cat to me, not sure what you're saying there Willowy. I have seen videos of Japanese cats, but I think they are bit rounder?
