This friday morning, little mister goes in for his neuter. When I called, the girl also asked me if I'd like him microchipped. I said yes, since with 4 kids and all their friends walking in and out all the time-you never know if someone small and furry may slip out the door. I don't have any intentions of allowing him to be an outside cat, we already have my neighbors cat that lives on my porch, so the house is protected from evil chipmunks and wascally wabbits.

The girl also said, and I hope she's right-The shelters cannot put a microchipped cat down. If she's right, I think that's wonderful, so even if an owner is hard to locate, the cat won't be euthanized.

Kairi has been told of this impending procedure, and it doesn't seem to bother him. Especially since I gave him treats after the call. Of course when he wakes me up friday morning, and gets no food or water...he may change his mind on the wisdom of my decision. The fact that he'll never spray my walls, furniture, children...may also be a distinct advantage.

My kitty Riley got neutered and microchipping this morning. We dropped him off at 8:30am and came to pick him up at 6pm. My gosh was he cranky this morning when he didn't get breakfast!! He was following me around the apartment this morning just crying with the saddest look on his face
poor boy was breaking my heart!! When he got home he was all out of it, walking diagonally, poor boy. Now he's sleeping in the other room, which is very unusual, as he never likes to be alone. But all is good and it went smoothly!

I never knew that info about the microchip ... good to know!!

Vibes to you and Kairi for everything to go well!!

Aw; a right of passage in a sense.  My girls came microchipped from the SPCA so that was nice.  The only thing I never did was register the numbers with the national database.  I know the local SPCA has theirs on file and I think our vet does too.  Looking back I should have done that!  It was much cheaper!  Don't know why I didnt!  I think it's awesome those things were invented for our furbabies!

All I worry about is the attitude I'm going to get when his food dish gets put away tomorrow night! He usually empties the bowl over night, so it's gonna be an ugly situation when I wake up. I'm locking the bird up, and weighting the fish tank covers....you never know if a hungry boy may want to go hunting or fishing!

Mooch, the vet keeps a record of the microchip, and chips can be traced to what vet bought which numbers. I don't really worry about Kairi running outside, but you never know!!

Well, I dropped Mr K Fuzzbutt off at the vets, they will be doing the surgery around, well, now. I'm to call at 3 to find out when I can pick him up. He was hungry this morning, SO hungry...and hungry kitty is scary, in your coffee, on your shoulder, meowing in your ear, ready to eat your face, kitty.

I put the carrier on the table and waited for "Box kitty" to see it. 3 minutes passed and he had kenneled himself, I shut the door, and he sat in the carrier, PURRING. Put him in the car and that wasn't to his liking so he meowed until we got to the vet. All the girls (the kitties that live there) gathered around the carrier, and all you could hear was Kairi-PURRING like a motor. He's a ladies man. LOL!!

He had a nice conversation with one of the cats, Violet, and I left while he was enjoying the attention. I miss him bugging me and head butting me. Even the dogs are looking for him. I hope I can pick him up before my youngest gets home from school- but he can always come with me to pick him up, and he'll love all the "girls" as well.

Fingers crossed that the "Yarblectomy" goes well!

Thanks all!!! Kairi came home yesterday around 3, with a cone on his head, fully awake and starving!! They said he purred when they put the catheter in his leg, and woke right up-no grogginess at all. lol.

He's confined to the bathroom since he's trying to get the collar off by rubbing it on EVERYTHING in sight, and knocking things off of tables, counters and whatnot.

He's not gonna last with that collar. I can't take it much longer. Poor guy tried to play with a toy and couldn't get it to his mouth. I'll check his rear before taking it off, but jeez, this is worse than the neuter for him!!

One question...Kairi never sprayed, and didn't yet have that "Tom cat pee" smell to his urine. Now the bathroom REEKS of it. (where the litter box is) is this normal for a young neuter...It smells really bad, and I have had that experience with older cats, but I figured since he's a kitten I wouldn't smell that smell.

I am glad your little man is home and doing well. I have never used a collar before after a male kitten has been neutered. So just see how it goes. It is possible that the urine reeked very strongly because he held his urine the whole day at the vets. Just a possibility. Not sure how old he is - but the urine can start getting that pungent smell after about six months or so. But I just think it had to do with him retaining his urine for so long. I am sure in the days to come, you will not notice the urine smell. :wavey:;)

You were absolutely right! No more smell!! I took the collar off, and he's just fine. Too busy being attached to us like velcro, to mess about with his missing yarbles.
He's 7 months old, but hadnt started any tomcat behavior, so I'm guessing we missed that whole mess!

It could have also been an effect of the anesthesia drugs they used.

Is he normally attached to you like velcro, or just after the anesthesia? I ask because when Boots was still under its effects he was in my lap 24/7, and normally he's not a lap kitty. Just curious :D

He's normally pretty "on top of me" affectionate, but he's even more so, if that's possible. Anywhere I go, he's in front of me, trying to climb onto my back, shoulders, lap...and purring like I'm doing something so wonderful, he can barely stand it.

It's funny, and I always love that kitty love thing, so it's working for me. He's been home for almost 3 days, post neuter, so I'm guessing he just missed us enormously. If it remains, cool. If not, that's ok too. LOL!!
