Question of the day 1/15/2012

My job is pretty good, but it took a long time to get here.

 

If I could choose anything, I'd drive a truck, with my wife, for one of the big drag racing teams.  However, I've heard those drivers say that after six months or so, it's just another job.

My job is OK, I guess. I'm a land use planner for my county, meaning I review subdivision and land development plans and approve them when I can (sometimes larger plans go before the county planning commission for approval). I have to do site inspections to make sure that what's on site matches what's on the plans, and to make sure that retention/detention ponds are built properly. I'm not an engineer, so most of the stormwater improvements are inspected by our Commission Engineer. Sometimes I go out on site with the Engineer, sometimes with somebody from another department (soil conservation, for example), or alone to take pictures for our files.

 

It's interesting sometimes. We have a large number of Amish and Mennonite farmers around here and lately, the big thing has been poultry barns. It's amazing how many big poultry barns are being built for the farmers to contract with large companies to raise chickens and such. There are a lot of chickens around here! We're a rural county and there's a lot of large-scale agriculture.

 

When I first started here, the Amish men didn't want to talk with me....they would speak with the guy I was with, even if he was from another department. I had to say, "Look, you need to talk with me, you need to look at me, you need to call me, etc." Now, they're so used to dealing with me that it's OK. But it took me awhile to get them to trust me, I think. And I swear they look at women as another (and inferior) species!

 

I attend the county planning commission meetings to discuss the plans we're working on monthly. I also attend municpal planning commission meetings to answer questions and to help with issues in the towns when I can. I'm responsible for writing zoning ordinances and subdivision ordinances, too. Sometimes a municipality may want a noise ordinance to be incorporated into the zoning ordinance. I do that, too.

 

So it's OK. I like to be busy and I am here. And I like to feel that I'm contributing something with my job.

My job as an environmental chemistry analyst is interesting, and can be fun, but to me it is a paycheck, not really a passion.

If I could do anything for work it'd be drag racing, something with animals, or driving around the country.

I enjoy my job, even the people (for the most part!) and the clients (Except Walmart).. I just wish I was getting paid more for the things I do

I have taken this last year off of the "horse training"..... YES - I loved my work. Very exciting, high energy, and I got to be around some absolutely gorgeous, talented, magnificent horses. I do miss it but after twenty five years I just needed to focus on other important thing's in my life - like my cat's and of course, Larry.

 

If, I could have any job, I would want to be a zoo keeper.  The professional payed type . But, it is not a financially feasible option for me.

Well, I have no career right now, so I guess you could say my job is going to school. I'm pre-law, so I certainly anticipate that my future career as a lawyer will satisfy me, considering it costs $100,000+ to get there.

My summer job is pretty decent for someone my age. I'm a toll booth worker for the Florida Turnpike system. My coworkers are mainly of Social Security age, so they all think it's a hoot that I wanted a job there And it's much, much better than working fast food, or retail, or at a tourist trap (all of which I have done)

I don't work outside the home, I basically have my own little craft business (selling my items at a local antique/craft mall).  I truly enjoy it, or I wouldn't be doing it.

 

If, however, I could do anything at all and be really, really good at it, I'd be a writer, an artist, or a professional genealogist.

Teaching is enjoyable because there are so many variables involved that it's rarely boring (though often stressful).

I don't have a job right now. I am in school for medical office assistant. I find learning about the medical field really interesting and enjoy learning about it.

I enjoy my job. The people are great. the benefits are great, and it's always pretty interesting, as I an constantly learning. 

 

If I could have any career in the world, it would be as an archaeologist. That is what I took in uni, but to get a job in it I would need to get my masters, then my PhD. So, maybe in the future. I would love to either focus on Africa or South America. Maybe someday... 

My job is ok. I mean, I don't HATE going to work, but I don't wake up thinking "Yay, I get to go to work!!". I work in a call center as a government contracted employee for federal retirement. This was supposed to be a temporary job....and I'll have been there 7 years come Jan 23rd. Yeah, well, what can I say. The pay isn't bad (especially for around here) and the benefits are good (although I pay out the butt for them).

 

I hated it for the first 2 years, but then I got promoted to "Tier 2", which means I am one of 10 people that are like the help desk for the other 130 reps taking calls. If they have questions they can call and ask us, or if someone demands to "speak to a supervisor" we take the calls (yeah, if you ask to speak to a sup....you probably aren't REALLY speaking to a sup). We get yelled at a lot, get called every name in the book, and I'm starting to realize just how dumb the general population is (Sir, I'm sorry your form rejected but, where it asks if you're married, you need to check YES or NO. You can't check both just because you don't like your wife). You think I'm kidding.

 

The one plus is I'm one of 3 on our contract that is able to email processing in AL or the Board in DC to get answers. So that does make it interesting and makes me feel like I can actually do something to help someone. The plus side is I can read between calls and I can wear jeans and sweatshirts to work. So overall, it's not bad.

 

My dream job would be being an author or being paid 6 figures for taking care of barn cats!

 

 

I'm a stay-at-home-mom. I've never been busier in my life!!  I do enjoy it but it's harder than I ever imagined too.  This is what I've always wanted to do and most of the time I think I'd be content never going back to work.  But if I had to have a day job; I'd like to get more into my Interior Design.  I have my AAS in it now; but I've never been able to do anything professional with it.  But at the same time the thought of having to live and work in/near a bigger city is a huge turnoff.  I prefer my space and the quiet!

Meh. I don't love my job, it's just a way to get paid.

 

I'm not sure what I would do if I could do anything. That's the problem I have. If I knew, I would do it!

I love my job as an Office Manager, even more so that l went part time at it 

I LOVE my job! So much that i am waiting to find out if I made the Doctoral program I wanted so I can move ahead in my field. That and I always wanted to be able to say that's Dr. Crazy Cat Lady to you!!!
