I have not had my baby for very long, about four months. She is a little over a year and a half old and has had one litter (not with me). We have bonded very well though. :D Okay four months and she is just now going into heat. What are the average heat cycles? This is my first female cat.....lol. Also, she has never pooped outside her litter box until now. Is this normal for a kitty in heat?

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Heats last several days to two weeks, and can occur every two or three weeks. Including the yowling and unbearable behavior. Every time.
So, I suggest you get her spayed.
Both for the peace of mind, preventing kittens, and also preventing the uterine cancers and things that intact females often suffer from. Breast cancer chances increase dramatically the more heat cycles a female cat goes through.
Not sure about the litterbox thing.

A cat in heat wants to advertise her presence to any males that are around. So you do get marking and other behaviours that are not normal. Of course her main aim will be to get out of the house so be very careful - they can be incredibly fast and cunning at this time. I would talk to your vet and see how quickly she can be spayed - some vets will do it during the heat, though it is a little more difficult and costs more.

You have my sympathies! LOL. My first cat was half Siamese and went into heat before we could spay her. The constant yowling was terrible! And lasted for 3 full months (which is how long it took to get the spay appointment)! She never peed or pooped outside the litterbox but I know that many females do while in heat, to attract males by scent.
I recommend having her spayed as soon as your vet will do it. No reason to put her (and you!) through that unless she's part of a well-run breeding program.
