What breed is my cat...

 Hello,

I have a question, does anyone knows what breed is this cat? Not like it really matters, but I've always been curious.  I've had him since he was a little kitty and he is somewhat different to other cats. For example, he does not purr too much, only occasionally and for a few moments. He does like to be lift off the ground too much. He seems a little in the wild side, very independent. I've had cats growing up, that would climb to my lap and star purring right away and even bring me gifts :). Definitely not this one. lol Here is a picture of him.

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the Site. What a very handsome boy you have - beautiful markings and an alert intelligence. From the pictures I at first thought he had no tail, but it is visible in a couple of the pictures. He is not any particular breed. but a highly individual example of what we call a Domstic Shorthair. All cats are different, and many show some of hte apprearance or characteristics of pedigree bred cats - after all, almost all 'breed' cats were first bred out of the dometic population, through selection of certain traits. For information, even if a cat is known to have a parent that is pedigreed, without the official papers to prove its ancestry, it cannot be registered as a particular breed. You can of course, among your friends, call your cat a 'look-alike Persian/Siamese/Russian Blue or whbatever other breed you think it resemles. But in your case, your cat is a gorgeous Domestic Shorthaired Tabby.

Welcome tot he site, and I h ope you will stick around and continue to post pictures and stories about your boy. If you have any cat-related problems or questions then there are always people here with lots of experience who can help.

Jenny thank you for the warm welcome. I've always thought he was no special breed, as he was found meowing in my backyard one night. One year later no one has claimed him. He is a semi outdoor cat and spends lots of time outside and I am sure the neighbors have seen him by now. Since he spends time outside, whenever I want him back inside. I'd just whistle and he always shows up, sometimes right away and others 30 minutes later. :)

First off, welcome to TCS biggrin.gif! I'm glad you found us here.

Your cat is an absolutely stunning example of a domestic shorthair (or moggy) -- brown classic tabby with white, to be more precise. I, too, thought that he had no tail initially. But, upon viewing the other photos, I did notice that his tail was present. Regardless, he is very handsome and sounds as though he is a truly wonderful cat. I agree with the above poster that he does look to be bright, alert, and intelligent. His coat is glossy and he appears to be healthy and happy in his surroundings. By all accounts, he stumbled into the right yard when he found your home...

I hope you decide to stick around. We love photos here so, please, keep sharing. I hope to see you around -- welcome and, well, enjoy!

Hi!

Im joining the chorus of welcomes AND superlatives!   :)

Im wondering about the tail. So it IS there, you can detect in some pictures. Although the position of the tail, always steeply down is unusual. Did the tail got broken?  I hope he doesnt has pains.  Probably not, for as the other said, he looks very healthy and bright.  A cat with real pains wouldnt look so bright, so alert and yet at ease.

The yawning?  Probably he isnt not sleepy. To yawn is their way to greet their friends, often the human owner...

Good luck!

The short or lack of tail is what actually prompted me to start this thread, I had the same question  when he was found. I checked and felt for a while and concluded he most to have been born this way.

Check out the link to the pictures below.

Before he was adopted, I played for years with the idea of adopting a female cat, but never go around to it. One night I found him, when I did. I thought he was a girl, so I spent the next 6 months calling him  a girl's name "oinkita" lol! One morning, after seeing his testicles, I came to the realization that what I had was a boy. So I changed his name to "oinkito". He is a cat with an open mind, so he never got upset. :)

He definately looks like he has Manx in him with that bobbed tail.

The 'manx' or tailless gene occurs naturally - it does not necessarily have anything to do with the 'Manx' breed.

He is a gorgeous cat!  And he looks like he has lots of "character."
