I have been using Fresh Step Extreme for the last few months. It works for me. I have three cats, and when I tried lots of clumping litters I had a very hard time cleaning out the boxes, when I washed them out.The clumping litters would adhere to the plastic.I had to work hard scraping the litter out.I clean out the boxes about five times a day. I feel the cats appreciate that. I wash them out twice a week. Fresh Step Extreme seems to take care of any odor, and its easy to clean.

In reply to Krysnic's post, you said you tried Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal but didn't like the strong odor. First time I bought it I got the one called Fresh Scent ( the lightweight ) and hated the scent of it. I like the clumping and odor control so much I started using the Fresh Home one. It has no perfumed scent or dust at all and there's no odor at all when the litter box is dirty. Now I don't have to have the litter box out in the garage in winter. So much more convenient than letting my kitty in and out of the garage when she had to "go". Hope this helps. I think you'll  find this is the perfect litter like I did.

I haven't seen any mention of dust. My new cat Francesca digs like crazy and I share my office with her, the entire room keeps a thick layer of dust at all times! I have COPD /emphysema and am on oxygen, please help!
So, the finer the litter, the more cluming ability? And the more dust? The heavier you go, all the way to pellets the less clumping and less dust? And walnuts? Was looking into Blue Buffalo Naturally Fresh litters but a little pricey for me..any thought or ideas? TIA

I used to use 'Worlds Best...' but I hate the smell one it has even the slightest bit of waste.  Switched to S-Wheat,   Love it.  Used it for about 4 years now.  No dust or sickening odor.  Great clumping.  Biodegradable so I flush it.  I get the extra clumping and fragrance free.

I went & posted reviews of all the litter's I've tried. I've run into breathing problems & the box is in the bedroom so I've been looking for solutions to dusty ole clay litter.

I just discovered Fresh Results clumping litter. It's not clay but I don't know what it's made of, I got mine at walmart, it's not expensive. I would highly recommend you get a bag & try it for yourself. We each have our own limit for dust so you're just gonna have to try different ones. But definitely start there. No dust at all. The only "bad" thing I think is when you open the bag, it's super scenty. I'm sensitive to scents so it was like a truck hitting me in the face. I pushed it around & then after about a day or two, I couldn't smell it anymore. The clumps stay together, I didn't have any urine smell & once the stuff is gone in my box, I just tried Yesterday's News (terrible!) I will go back to Fresh Results.

Try Blue Buffallo Walnut clumping litter or silica crystals (precious cat brand For long haired cats works great) in an odor absorbing disposable litter box. I place the disposiible box (natures miracle makes them with baking soda and they absorb urine odors that settle to the bottom of the pan) Inside the plastic litter pan instead of a liner. Works great with either litter, both of which are virtually dust free. Scoop solids regularly (I also scoop up the peed on crystals with a non slotted spoon) and change out the entire box as needed.

I use the Blue Naturally fresh quick clump litter, walnut shells. I am a new Mommy, and am on oxygen due to emphysema so dust was a MAJOR ISSUE. This litter has very minimal dust, and no smell. I highly recommend it.

I am not a fan of yesterdays news due to how strong the amonia smell is in the peed on litter as well as cats inability to dig In the pellets. That being said, For anyone who Insists on using this or any other discintegrating pellet type litter please do yourself a favor and only use it in a sifting type litter box. This typemof litter is not meant to be used in a traditional litter pan. The sifting pan will remove the peed on litter from the intact pellets keeping the litter cleaner for the cat, making the litter last much longer (no waste) and facilitating clean up. No more dumping the entire box, only toss the irine soaked litter.

All this said I think there are better systems on the market that avoid dust and amonia all together such as the Cat Geenie and Tidy Cats Breeze system. Breeze uses pee pads to neutralize the amonia but the pellets in that system do litter to absorb odor from feces and will not work at all if your cat has loose stools.

Personally I prefer Clumping Walnut litter (Blue buffalo Brand) and Cyrstals (Presious cat formlong haired). I have two cats and one prefers the walnut, the other uses crystals. Both track as with any type of litter but both are also very low dust and much better for air quality than traditional clay. I also use an air purifying filtration system to keep the area free of dust and odors.

I agree with the suggestions of the Blue Buffalo walnut litters. The odor control is out of this world, and there's zero dust to deal with. It claims not to track, but in five years of cat ownership, I've never found a litter that doesn't. Or maybe it's just my cat. :p

it's hard to believe people actually like the Blue Buffalo litter, when I used it, every time I went to scoop, the clumps fell apart. I hated it!

Huh, strange! I just scooped out the boxes and all of the clumps were hard as usual. I use the kind in the yellow bag for multiple cats, which I've never had an issue with.

I use Arm & Hammer clumping litter. I add a few cups of silica crystals and extra baking soda. So far so good ! ~[emoji]128569[/emoji]`

I've started out with Hartz litter. It has a mild fresh scent and doesn't have much dust as I can see...it has some when you first put it in the litter box. It's clumping and a smaller sized litter. I bought it at Menards in a 35 lb box. I have 6 in my closet as it was on sale for $9.99 plus an additional $4.00 rebate per box. I have not tried anything else yet as I've had my kittens for a short time but am happy enough with it.

Ms. Freya provided a good link for you to utilize.  Personally I use clumping.  I have 4 cats and 5 litter boxes.  I've always used Fresh Step but have been looking to change because I don't like the dust it creates.  Right now I'm weighing the pros and cons of some of the natural pine litters out there.
Mike...Don't want to hijack this thread, but would be interested in what you come up with. I use a clumping litter (Tidy Cat Instant Action) and I think both my cat and I may be allergic. We both have stuffy noses and watery eyes. I've tried eliminating other sources and it always comes back to the litter. My doctor, and the vet, both confirm that it appears to be an allergy and not some medical issue.

Problem is, both I and Max like the Tidy Cat - cheap, works well, etc. The downside is, of course, the dust which is suspect as the cause of the allergic reaction. Tried both a paper litter and a pine litter and Max wasn't buying into either (maybe I didn't give it enough time). Anyway, I suspect you have a lot more experience and would be interested it what you decide. Thanks.

My cat doesn't like dust, so she loves World's Best Cat Litter (it is clumping).  I have just tried Pretty Litter, which is a great concept, but it is really like fine sand and sends off quite a bit of dust when scooped.

Concerned about the health of our felines we wanted a plant based litter. Since the cats wash their paws we did not want corn, clay or silica. We tried Blue Buffalo and are happy with our choice. The cats had no problem using it on day one.
