I took this picture at the shelter today. Gorgeous girl. Just wondering what her color pattern is. My first thought was tortie, but then I saw the large white patches, which says calico. Is there such a thing as tortie with white?

:dk: It's a shame 'very pretty' & 'drop dead gorgeous' aren't color options! :lol3:

I know that there's a term for a cat that has requirements of both, pretty much a tortie with some white.   I would say this cat is closer to a tortie, I think (could be mistaken) a calico is described as a white cat with the colored patches of the typical colors for calicos.  It looks like this cat is tortie with white feet and a white spot on the chest, it doesn't look like her tortie coloring is on top of the white but its the white that's on top on the tortie...if that makes sense.    I'm not an expert though so I could be wrong lol

She is gorgeous!!  I've always had a love for torties and calicos.  Officially, she would be classified as a calico, by the vet.  A calico is a tri-colored cat with one of the colors being white.  The other 2 colors are usually black and red (as in your beauty's case) or blue and red, also called a dilute calico by breeders and CFA.

But, personally I would call her a tortie with white.  Because it looks to me like the white is in one region and not throughout and the rest is tortie pattern.  However, a calico doesn't have to have white patches throughout, it just has to be tri colored.

Also, calico's are supposed to be lucky!!  So be glad she'd be classified as such!

I would say tortie with white.  Calicos have a predominate white fur with distinct blocks of black and red.  They little or none of the mixed black and red.

What a lovely cat. I hope he finds her way into someone's heart and home -- she is definitely a beauty.

I, too, would consider her to be a tortie with white. Calicos are known to have much more white. And, from what I understand, the calico coat has more color blocking and less of a "brindled" appearance. The vets I work with would also consider this to be a tortoiseshell cat. Though, to be fair, not all vets are knowledgeable about cat coloration and breed. However, I would still opt to call her a gorgeous DLH tortie with white.

She is such a pretty girl. And, my hope is that she gets snapped up and adopted quickly. Please keep us updated as to whether this girl finds a new home.

I'd call her a tortie too. Calicos have more white in colour patches.
She's darn pretty whatever you want to call her though!

My vote is for tortie with a little white, mainly because she's brindled. Miezi's sister is a calico; she has a lot more white and the black and red are in blocks:
