Hey everyone! I've been stalking this forum for awhile, but thought I'd finally get around to joining up! My name is Aimee, I live in Melbourne Australia, 22, and I am cat-mother to two lovely girls :) Darcy is the black and white longhair in my avatar, and Lyla is my blue tortie. I love them to pieces, even if they do seem intent on destroying my flat and making my life all around difficult at times lol. But all in all they're lovely. I do have a question, though: can anyone tell me what Lyla's parents would've looked like? I know that if you breed a red female with a black male, you'll get tortie girls, so I was thinking maybe dad would've been a blue and white bi-color and mum would've been a cream, or vice versa? I asked my vet, but he wasn't very helpful and just said "they could've looked like anything". I do know that dilute is a recessive, so that makes things a bit more difficult as well! Anyway, hello once again, and thanks in advance for the advice :D

Hi and welcome to TCS!

Your kitties are so cute!  But it sounds like you already know more than me when it comes to kitty-genetics!  That might be something easier answered in our Breeder's Corner section: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/7/breeders-corner.  I'm thinking one of the advisors or breeders that post there should be familiar with what it takes to make a certain pattern; if it's something you can predict or speculate on.  I know one of my cat's looks just like her mother, a tuxedo.  Her litter mate has some similarities, but looks different in color, coat texture and body shape.

I hope you like it here at TCS!  Come hang out with us in the Cat Lounge if you haven't already!

Welcome to TCS Aimee!

I personally don't know much about genetics, but as MoochNNoodles suggested, Breeders Corner would be a great place to pose that question
