I am taking Monet to the vet tonight, and I am sure he'll have to be sedated to check his ears. The vet isn't picking up the phone at this time, so maybe I'll get a quicker response here?

Should he eat before going to the vet to be sedated? it'd be about an hour before his appointment.

thanks

he's not a feral, but he sure acts like it at the vet. When I took him in 3 weeks ago for his annual checkup.. he was just plain terror and extremely stressed out. Hissing, clawing, growling scratching.. everything... the vet and the assistant could not get a good hold on him without sedating him. It took both vet and the assistant to corner him and hold him down so the vet could sedate him :( I am PRAYING he'll be good tonight, but I doubt it :(

Thanks for the fast response. I wont feed him tonight, though he did have his breakfast this morning which would be about 10 hours. I made a last minute vet call.

below is a pic of him being held down by the team

Oh my God, how terrifying for him! :(
Are they used to dealing with cats? Just wondering......
Gracie was like that too..... But experienced vets will have the right touch as to not be that scary.....
Anyways, if he is going to be sedated, yes, safer to not feed....

This vet office specializes only in cats and rabbits (and other small rodents), so yea, I'd say they know cats. Monet was just too difficult to handle for them! They couldn't get him out of the carrier. I am taking a different carrier tonight that opens on top as well as front.. so maybe that will help the vet.

Yeah.... Do you have some feliway spray you can spray on the carrier a couple of hours prior to the vet trip? You can spray the car too.... rescue remedy might help too....

I just have the diffuser.. not the spray and I can't afford it at the time. I am not sure how I'm going to afford the vet with the visit, the sedation, culture and possible meds :(

I powdered the carrier down with baby powder.. that calmed him the last time when I brought him home from the vet.

How'd he do?  What's the story with his ears?  I thought you were treating the Ringworm already...did I miss something that he needed to be seen?  (sorry, I've been drugged for a Migraine and apparently am not thinking straight!!

the not eating before sedating is most important with surgical anesthezia. Where they breathe in the sleeping gases.

If it is an injection it is not as much touchy.

But yet - if you do have any choice at all - better he has an empty stomach.
