I thought it would be interesting to see what the other members have trained their cats to do. I trained Wessie to high five my hand sometime last year, and trained him to sit yesterday.
If I'm able to teach him more tricks I might try to take a video of it.

What are your cats trained to do?

I haven't been able to train Holland to do anything...
Of course, I haven't really tried either. I keep wanting to try some clicker training, but I haven't done it yet. I don't know how it would work on cats that are 3-4 years old already.

Daymon, on the other hand, he gives me high fives. But I can't take credit for that.
When he's in a mood to be petted, he will do anything to get my hands on him. When I first brought him home and would sit in his room petting him, if I wasn't petting him with both of my hands he would nuzzle the idle hand until I did. I started holding my hand up and saying "gimme fives", just to see what would happen, and sure enough, he will sit up and touch my palm with both his paws.

Wessie is going to be 4 in June, and it only took me about an hour to get him to sit perfectly on command. I know that training cats when they are still kittens is preferred, but older cats can catch on. I did use the clicker while training Wessie to sit. It seemed to work well.

Daymon sounds so sweet!

Oh how funny :lol3:

Wendall is SO food motivated that I think I could teach him anything. He sit's. He stands up on hind feet. He speaks. He gives a high five. Pipsqueak plays fetch, and hold's the toy in his mouth, lays down on the floor on his side as I spin him around on a smooth surface - :flail: He really, really loves that. I have to get a video of it - it is hysterical - He meows the whole time during his spins too all the while holding the toy in his mouth. Pipsqueak also rolls over :lol2: Such a clown :D

My three domestic cats: Momma Cat, Shadow, and Panda know basic compliance commands. By, compliance commands, I mean basic health and husbandry behaviors. They know: sit, stay, lay down (go to either side) and stay. They also know how to hold any of the above behaviors, until released (verbally).

Loki, the Savannah cat, knows all of the above behaviors. Plus, "shake hands" (give paw like a dog), he will "stand pretty" (stand on his hind legs) in order to show his size, he will jump threw a whoop, weave threw my legs on command, and will play vetch like a dog (he taught himself that, I just fostered the behavior).

Please, note the following: the domestic cats do the behaviors for treats, such as, Pounce, Whiskers Temptations, cooked chicken and cooked turkey. The Savannah will do them for praise and a good game of tug-O-war.

wouldn't lower himself to do tricks

Luna will lift her paw and say "now" for Temptations.

Midnight dances, walks in a circle, touches noses with me, stands up, sits down & shakes paw for Temptations.

Over the river and through the woods...
Mine are trained to come running when they hear open their food
and that's about it. Well, I can't say that. They ALSO come running when they hear a treat bag opening or the laser pointer being picked up (its on a key chain so it has a distinctive sound). Actually, the laser pointer did come in handy a few times. When Harley was little, and we were still living in town (so he was definitely indoor only), some guests we had over accidentally let him out. We looked and called for about an hour trying to find him. Finally, hubby told me to go get the laser pointer. I took it out, shook it a bit, and he came right to us wanting to play. So, I guess I kinda trained them? Or did they train me?

When I bang a spoon on top of a can of food or shake a treat bag, they come running. Or if I click their laser pointer on. But that's pretty standard fare...

Taking a cue from a friend who trains her dogs using NILIF, I have trained Harvey and Crumb to "sit pretty" in order to receive their food or treat. Once their food dishes are filled or I have gotten treats out of the bag, I hold them in the air and say "Sit pretty!" Both of them will sit on their bottoms with their little heads looking up at the food. If one or the other ignores the command, the other has to wait until they both are sitting. It also really alleviates verbal begging for food when I open a cabinet or the fridge. Instead, they will sit pretty by their dish when they're hungry! Their "grandmother" catsat them over the holidays, and she was amazed by how obedient they were.

In paradise, under a cat pile
Willie will answer to his name with a meow and come running no matter where he is.

I use the have cats the would jump from furnture top to the other, around the room in the old days. My first three were better trained.

Now a days I just care if they don't distroy my stuff.

I wouldn't really say that I trained Chacho to do this, more like encouraging him but he brings me his ball and plays fetch :-)    I've also taught him to sit for his breakfast and dinner. I'm sure once he looses his kitten attention span and lack of patience, I'll train him on more things.    When I lived at my parents house, I taught the current oldest cat of the house how to jump up on command, jump into boxes and plastic sacks on command, also to high five, sit and beg. Though she would only do tricks on her terms though, if she wasn't in the mood then she wouldn't do anything lol but that's a cat for ya.

I've trained Bowser to ignore me whenever I call for him

Yeah, that's pretty much it!

Hydrox, The Old Coot, could shake paws and, when he was younger, he could sit up and "beg". Most of our cats will come when I call them. Bootser won't, though; she'll sit there and meow back at me. They all know what the word "Treat!" means and will all come running to the kitchen when it's time for their treat. They all know the word "Lunch" too and when we talk about having lunch, we usually spell the word out, so we don't get them excited. I'm serious....we have to spell in front of our cats.

When Banshee was alive and had to take her pills (she had heart problems, asthma, and thyroid issues), she trained me to put the pills in her mouth as soon as she opened it. It took quite a while, but I finally figured it out. She and I were having a heckuva time with the pill thing and one night, I said, "Open!". She opened her mouth and I was so stunned I just stood there. Rick started yelling, "Throw the pills, Pam, throw the pills!" I did, stroked her throat, and she swallowed. And that was the end of pilling problems. She took her pills, she got her treats, and all I had to do was get the pill minder out of the kitchen cabinet and she would get on the back of the chair. We got it down pat. Took me long enough.

Max is one of my Rainbow Bridge cats.  He was the one I could teach things.  He walked on the treadmill and played Hide and Seek.  Seriously, he really did.

You guys have already seen the videos on Youtube but Simba can:

- Come

- Sit

- Lie Down

- High Five

- High Ten

- "Cheers" (reach upwards with both paws)

- Give a paw

- Give both paws

Not sure what to teach him next!

Hoshi can catch treats in his mouth when I toss them. That's about it for any of them :lol3:

He also will "gopher" when I hold treats in my hand and I feed them to him.

I have 4 cats but Ramsey is the most trained of them all.  I use feline Greenies as treats when training him.  He loves them, especially the tuna flavored Greenies.  He will sit up, roll over (kind of) and play hide and seek.  He also comes when called.  He will play fetch with fuzzy little balls and will catch Greenies in his mouth when tossed in the air.  2 of my other cats will come when called and play fetch. The fourth cat does exactly as she pleases
Sometimes she will play, sometimes she won't.  One thing she will do is come when called because usually there is a treat for her.

I enjoyed Simba's video.  He made me smile.  My cats know what "kiss-kiss" means.  Daisy will touch noses with me and Speck will lower his head for a kiss.  Sometimes they can be persuaded to chatter, but not so much since they are older.  Blackberry is trained to pretend to swallow an allergy pill and then spit it out the side of her mouth.
Sometimes it flies across the room.
