I have good news and bad news.

I brought Guinness in to work with me today. I wanted the vet to take a look at him since I just adopted him from the shelter. And, he also had a free exam coming to him. He had been doing alright at home. As I've mentioned before, he has spent the majority of his short life in a kennel. So, he's obviously scared. But, we cuddled a bit last night and he has used his litter pan, eaten some food, and drank a bit of water. However, he has always had some very slight clear discharge coming from his eyes. And, I've noticed some "wetness" around his nose and he has swallowed hard a couple of times. It's not been enough to really concern me. But, I'm a worrier anyway. The vet thinks he does have a URI. Some of the discharge was a bit suspicious -- maybe a tinge of yellow or green. So, we've put him on Clavamox and I may wind up needing an eye ointment, but the vet thinks it's a minor respiratory infection at best. Why then am I so worried? The biggest concern is that I noticed he has some grey hairs coming in. I don't know how to explain them since they were not present when I adopted him and I only noticed them for the first time today. There aren't many and they are just along his back and tail. It could be a fever coat, I suppose. But, there was no fever noted at the vet and he is a bit old at 8.5 months for a fever coat. I'm guessing it's stress related, but I worry about my little guy.

The good news is that Guinness was a perfect angel at the vet. He was such a good boy all day long! He used the litter box while there, drank some water, and took a few bites of his kibble. I want him to eat and wonder if the URI is playing a part in his resistance. So, I decided to temporarily put him on Hills I/D canned food. I don't want him to develop GI symptoms so I figure the I/D is a safe bet for the time being. I'll still be offering him his dry kibble during this time as well. He was very interested in the wet food and went right to it when I placed it in his kennel -- those are very good signs! Since I got him eating, I did give him some Lysine. And, I'll continue to do that going forward. My other kitties are on Lysine as well. Thankfully, there has been no face-to-face contact between Guinness and the other cats. But, I am giving everyone some additional Lysine just in case. Everyone loved Guinness today at work and he was so excellent today at the vet. I'm so proud of him. I just wish the poor guy didn't have to deal with a URI on top of the stress of being adopted.

So, if you could please spare some vibes for me and my little one, I'd appreciate it. And, any ideas on the odd grey hairs that are suddenly cropping up? I know he's in good hands, but I can't help but be concerned.

Why is loving a kitty so hard?! I hope my little man is okay. I hope all of my kits are.
