Mark and I have decided to adopt another kitty, mainly as a playmate (hopefully) for Tumbles since he's continuing to terrorize Hannah and she just doesn't want anything to do with him.  I have contacted a couple of rescue groups and I either get, "You can see X at the adoption event on Saturday/Sunday." or "You can see the kitty at PetsMart."  but no one will actually TELL me about the cats and their personalities!  That is just sooo frustrating!  There is no phone # to call, only an email address.  I would think that folks would want to speak with potential adopters and make sure that the kitty will be a good fit for their home, but I just can't get anyone to work with us!

I agree. You think they would want to talk to you. When you do talk to them, I would voice those conserns. After all, they should want to find good homes for thier kitties as soon as possible.

Wow, that's just sad! Whenever a potential adopter contacts me, and BOTH my email & cell number are always available, I always tell them all about the kitties and the type of home I think would be best for them. They are also always welcome to come to my home to meet the kitties.

Here's hoping you'll be able to find the purrrrfect baby for your home!

I finally found a group, but the cat they suggested I meet was very standoffish.  Sigh.

That really stinks. I adopted both Holland and Daymon from the Denver Dumb Friends League, and they were very helpful, especially with Daymon, since I already had a cat in the house. I just told them about Holland's personality, they suggested I need a sweet, laid-back male, and they were able to suggest appropriate cats. Although I have to say it is always difficult to talk to a real person on the phone, when I was looking I left a bunch of messages and didn't get called back. I just kept calling and calling until I got a person. Which is baffling to me as I keep trying to put in a volunteer application there, but the only volunteers they're taking are foster parents.

I'm sure it can get difficult with so many cats in and out of shelters, but staff really should have a good idea about personalities before they adopt them out. Good luck!

Well, I went back to Petfinder and found another kitty that sounded like a good fit for our family.  I sent off an email yesterday while at lunch.  I had a reply from the foster mom when I got home from work!  She's been very helpful!  Guess the key is to keep trying and not give up.

I got so annoyed with that when we were looking to adopt a cat last February. I sent so many emails and left so many messages, the rescues either didn't contact back or asked me to pick a specific cat from their page and they would inquire about their personality with the foster. When I worked with canine rescue, if someone sent an email asking for a dog with specific requirements, a mass email was sent out and anyone with a dog fitting that description would write back.

We ended up just posting an ad on Kijiji stating what we were looking for and got tons of responses (many from the rescue groups that had either denied us because we have an intact male dog or the ones that wouldn't/couldn't tell us about the cats).
