The Cosequin that I had for Pipsqueak was made for Cat's. http://nutramaxlabs.com/Vet/Products/Cosequin-for-cats.aspx I is not a pill :) - It is a capsule and you only have to sprinkle one on the food once daily. Twice daily for over ten pounds (two capsules sprinkled on food). It is very easy and they can't taste anything either. I ordered mine from Amazon and also the Dasuquin http://www.nutramaxlabs.com/vet/products/Dasuquin-for-cats.aspx can be ordered from Amazon. It certainly won't hurt to put Bonaparte on one of these two product's. The Cosequin a a little cheaper but the Dasuquin has a better formulation of ingredient's as Laurie says :). That is what Pipsqueak is on right now.
I wish we could find out WHY certain cat's are prone to stone formation like that. Hope he gets better on the new diet and continues to improve. :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
No, it seems the Dasuquin is not available here for some reason. If I decide to get it, Amazon delivers here, so htat would not be a problem.

He is much better today, almost his old self. He is asking to go out for the first time since his op, but I am not letting him yet - I will wait till he has the stitches out. The one thing thqat worries me is that he is spraying more than actual peeing- he is obviously not blocked, and he is using hte tray sometimes, but he is also spraying the wall and furniture. He does that sometimes as a protest if he can't go out (for example on hunt days) and I hope it is just that.

I'm so sorry Bonaparte had to go through all that ordeal, the poor baby.  I'm glad he is doing well after surgery and I pray that he continues to improve.

Hug!

Sounds to me like he feels well enough to complain! :D :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: that's what it is. :rub:

He must be feeling better if he's getting feisty, though I'm sure you could really do without the spraying. Continued :vibes::vibes::vibes: for him.

The vet sid 10 days, which is Monday. But I haven't had the lab results on the stones yet, and I would like to be able to discuss that with the vet at the same time. So I may leave it a day or two if they haven't come in. He is fine this morning, still preferring to sleep in his'own' room, but now wanting to join the others during the day.

:yeah: He must be feeling good and letting you know... I bet those stitches can't come out soon enough :lol2:. So glad he is on the mend.
I posted too soon - Lauren, he must have heard you! When I fed him this morning, because I was in a hurry to get everyone fed and he was impatient, I didn't medicate or check him. I went back a little later to do those things and he has pulled all his stitches out! And not only the stitches, but the staples that reinforced them. Fortunately it is now a week since the op, and the wound is holding together, but when I called the vet they want to see him this afternoon, to decide whether they need to redo them. So, in case he has to be sedated, he is allowed no lunch. Serves him right, naughty boy.

The vet said he did a very neat job of pulling all the stitches out, and sent him home with a cone collar. But this morning I found him licking his wound even with the collar on him, so I have disinfected it and put a dressing on. Then I put a Tshirt on him, fortunately I had bought two so that Wellington could wear them to stop him pulling his fur out. I am not sure of Bonaparte's reaction, though, judging by his expression!

Yes, but he has not been happy today. He is trying desperately to get at h is stitches, and eventually retreated this evening to his safe room, where he has climbed up on a pile of storage boxes and is hiding there. I am going to get him down tonight somehow, and take him in to sleep with me, in his normal place, but without any of the others, so I can cuddle him and be there for him.

He s still not happy in the Tshirt, but slept well cuddled against me all last night. He has taken all the stitches out and the vet did not replace them, so the next time I go in with him is when I get the results of the stone analysis, to discuss his diet.

I think he is just adorable in that shirt, but does it really work at keeping him away from the wound?  I would think he would be able to pull it up and start licking

No, he can't, because there is a snap fastener that attaches it round his tail, leaving the important bits clear so he can use the tray!

Thanks for the info. Lauren. The vet has called me this morning and I can bring Bonaparte home htis afternoon. The vet says he removed a lot of gunk form his tubes, some of which was embedded and had been there a long time. I must keep him on a special diet for the rest of his life, difficult in a mulit-cat (and dog!) household, but I will sort things out. He is also an inside/outside cat and eats the prey he catches, and I cannot change that - I have a feeling that it may be no coincidence that this has happened just after I had to keep him in for a month because I had a cat-killing dog staying in my gite and the poor cat was definitely very stressed. All the cats are already on the best urinary balance food I can find, but it will need to go further. I will discuss the details with the vet when I see him later.
It will be wonderful to have him home. There has been such a Bonaparte-shaped hole in the house, and everyone is feeling it. Tasha is definitely missing him and the cats are quiet and not themselves.. I miss having him in his normal spot on the bed at night and on my pillow in the morning to wake me up. My neighbour has asked where he is, as he is a regular visitor to their garden.
So I will update tonight when I have got him back. Thank you all for your kind wishes and vibes - we all know what a great difference it makes having TCS support behind you.

I hope everything starts to get better for you and bonaparte. When I first read the your problem I imeditly thought of stones. Its kind of funny but I have had kidney stone issues for quite a while and when I read that they did find small calcium stones and gravle and dirt It reminded me back in december when I had stone issues again I kept telling my doctor I knew I had stones again becaue It just flet like it but they xrayed me a couple of times and found nothing but when they finily operated on me like they did bonapart they also found smaller calcium stones. I never had blood with the big stones but those little boogers i sure did and sometimes the little ones hurt ten times worse than the bigger ones. Also I have found that If some of them were compacted for a while like you said that can be a tributing facter to the bleeding plust it also hurts the kidney function until the obstruction is removed. I defently know what bonapart is going through I know how it much it can hurt.
