So, I think I've posted enough that most everyone should know by now that I adopted a new cat yesterday. He is 8.5 months old, so is truly a kitten yet. He's also a DLH black with a white bib. In short, he's precious. And, despite his being very shy and uncertain of his surroundings, I am in love with him. Hands down, head-over-heels love.

This evening, I spent a lot of time in my bedroom (where Guinness (yes, I've finally settled on a name!) is being quarantined). The poor guy hasn't eaten or drank (unless he took some water over the night or when I was away -- though, it doesn't appear that he did) and he had not used the litter box for anything more than a temporary bed. And, while the kennel door has been left open, he has not ventured out on his own. However, this evening, he did use his litter box (he peed -- yay!) and made a bit of a mess. So, I picked him up and placed him in a fleece blanket while I cleaned his litter pan and the kennel. Afterward, I decided to take a gamble and see how he'd react to my gently holding him while he was wrapped in the blanket. I decided to keep it very low-key and put in my ear buds, grabbed my iPod, and laid down in bed with Guinness in my arms. I thought he'd squirm or be too uncomfortable to stay, but I was wrong. My little man snuggled in close and just purred away while I held him and pet him. He is so unbelievably sweet. And, if it hasn't been made abundantly clear by now, he has me wrapped around his little black paw.

I am hating the fact that I have to work the rest of this week. I want to spend time at home with Guinness, the other kitties, and, of course, my dogs. But, alas, I need to work and I do love my job. I am planning on taking him in with me tomorrow for an exam. The downside is that he'll be with me the entire day. I am a bit nervous about taking him to yet another place where he will be kenneled. But, I think I'd rather have him with me. And, I can surely give him a quick cuddle here and there throughout the day. And, that's not to mention all the attention he'll get from the vet and my coworkers. It'll be a long day for him, but I am planning on bringing his fleece blanket and his food along with some toys for him to play with. If I didn't need him examined, I'd likely let him stay home. But, at least I will be there and I can check in on him in the back all throughout the day and evening.

It's been a while since I've had a new kitty in the house. I got my last one, Finn, over two years ago. So far, things have moved slowly with Guinness. He is so afraid -- it breaks my heart as he was in a shelter for the majority of his life. He doesn't know what "home" is. I'm so thankful to have him, though, an to be with him as he comes to know love.

I just adore him. And, I hope in no time he begins to show his personality. I know there's a playful, spunky kitten beneath that silky black fur. And, as much as he is sweet, I know there's a naughty part of him just waiting to come out. I'm waiting to meet him. He's an absolute doll -- I just hope he knows how special he is and how he has completed our family.

Awww, that's great!
I'm sure Guinness will be out of his shell in no time, ready to be Finnegan's best friend. I still hate having to go to work and leave Holland and Daymon at home. I planned Daymon's adoption when I had time off of work, and I'm so glad I did. I hope Guinness makes it through his day without too much stress. I had to take Daymon back to the shelter for a checkup two days after he came home, and I was worried that he would think I was just taking him "back". I like to think that when we got home again he was relieved, and that his new home felt just that much more like home. I have no idea if cats are able to think along those lines, but it made me feel better telling myself they do!
