How can we stop other neighbors cats from entering the yard of our cat?

 

We recently recieved a cat, or shall I say kitten of about 5 months.

we let him go outside as he is very independant and generally stays close to the back door, however we have different neighborhoods cat that come into the yard and starts fights with Waffles El Gatito.

we do not want to put dangerous chemicals in the yard.

We have a lot of trees and shrubs.

Does anyone have any idea on how can we stop other neighbors cats from entering the yard of our cat?

There are quite a few "natural" cat deterrents in the market. I found this link http://www.ehow.com/how_4546406_make-homemade-cat-repellent.html

I suggest though that you supervise your kitten when he goes out. When you see the outsider, you can shoo it away. Hopefully, the intruder will take the hint and avoid trespassing into your yard. 

Since most of the members here are strong advocates of "indoor only" cats, I hope they do not take offense when I say that your kitten will grow up to be able to defend his "territory". Any strange cats in your yard will only be there by "invitation only". laughing02.gif  I know by experience since all my cats are indoor/outdoor. Only the "brave" and "desperate" strays wander in the property. 

Finally, please have your kitten neutered so he does not wander off and risk being victim of the dangers outside your home. smile.gif

Yayi has a good idea about going outside with your new furbaby and shooing away the other cats.  Other than that, I don't know of any surefire way of keeping cats out of a yard, other than to completely enclose your yard wink.gif, including putting a roof on it !

The yard is too big to put a roof on it.  Waffles and I will have to trust instint created by our Maker!
