Dry, balding ears?

Hi all, I am dreading the thought of taking Monet to the vet since he was an absolute TERROR and had to be sedated. I really don't want to put him through the stress unless I absolutely have to, and he was just there a few weeks ago right before christmas.

Hoping to get some ideas from you guys.. and hoping it's not ringworm!! Please don't let it be ringworm!!

I came home from an overnight stay at my parents' and I noticed Monet's ears, the outside of it, was crusty, dry, a little scabby and a small sized bald patch. I am not finding any issues anywhere else on his body, just both his ears. It doesn't seem to bother him.. no shaking of head or scratching. I've coated his ears with Lamisil just in case

below is a a pic.. hope it shows more of what I mean..

I just gave him a quick bath to clean his ears with his shampoo and anti-bacterial soap. Fur came off his ears, and the scabs flaked off. patches on his ears looks pretty raw and I am sure it's ringworm :( I will have to call the vet tomorrow.

the ears don't look as raw today, but still bald and slightly scabby.

Does anyone think I can try Lamisil and regular ear, face and neck cleanings with anti-bacterial soap would be OK instead of rushing to the vet? If it gets worse, of course I'd take him in.. I just don't want to put him through the terror and stress of the vet again.

The vet is just going to tell you to do the same thing.  Almost any athlete's foot treatment will work.  One of the cream ones, rubbed in well, might be good.

And wash your hands well before you touch another cat.  Or yourself, for that matter.

Our kittens each had one spot, which went away with treatment.  It takes about 4 weeks, and you need to treat it a couple of times per day until the fur starts to grow back in.

I didn't get it, myself, this time, but Dottie had one spot, on her leg.

thank you, mrblanche! That's exactly what I figured from the vet.. use the cream. If it gets worse and I can't control it, then I will take him in and ask for oral or the bath treatments.

My poor Cassie's 10 months and I do hope she does not get it :(

I called my vet to see if she can prescribe oral meds over the phone without taking Monet in. I hope so.. gotta wait for her to call me back
