Hello Everyone,

I have never really participated in a public message board, so, I am unclear as to "proper introduction" on a message board. Please cut me some slack, RE that issue.

Some "interesting facts" about me:

1) I am a male. I am guessing, perhaps incorrectly, that this site has no men.

2) I have a wonderful women in my life, I love her more then anything. She has improved my life beyond measure.

3) I have a son, who will be five soon. He is the "apple of my eye". The only one he has eyes for is "Cat Person".

4) I have two Ph.D's. One in String Theory Physics and one in Differential Mathematics, I did my undergrad at SUNY Stoney Brook. I did my Masters and Ph.D work at Cornell University and Columbia.

5) I have a VERY mediocre job. I am proof that, education does not necessarily yield excellence in  a career field.

6) I am a dog person. I have four dogs.

7) I am a big softy, bleeding heart, animal lover and so on. I am assuming, this should be well received, given the nature of this forum.

In general, I am not familiar with forums, social media, I.E. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and such sites. I have very poor spelling and grammar. My typing is mediocre, at best.

Have a good day,

Thomas

1.  Wrong.  There are a number of guys on here.  And loving cats doesn't make you any less a man; I'm a trucker, and another of my hobbies is hot rods.  I have a 1923 Model T Touring Car with a Chevy 350, TH350 transmission, and Ford 8-inch rear end.

2.  Likewise.

3.  No kids, other than the furry ones.

4.  I have a BA in English (Journalism concentration) and French.

5.  As I said, I drive a truck for a living, and have for many years, after I quit teaching high school after about 5 years of it.

6.  Not a dog person, although I understand their attraction.  I know just enough about dogs to have a really bad one, if I adopted one.

7.  I'm a softy, but most men are.

:lol3: Great introduction! As Mike pointed out, there ARE a number of men on TCS! Notably, there are a LOT of dog lovers too! Seems that plenty of people that just love animals wind up with cats. :) :rub:

My DH HATED cats. I loved all animals. Long story short... we got adopted by a cat. And now we live with 8, all rescues, and Gary wouldn't think twice about physically harming a person that was physically harming a cat. New priorities and all..... ;)

Welcome to TCS! Hope you enjoy your stay! :D

Yes, indeed. I am the one marrying "the cat lady".

The issue of being bossed around on an inter-species level has only increased
. Not, actually a new phenomenon, in my life. Right now, the filial level three cat, is the only one that spends some time in our home. Loki, spends they day at her house with his "friends". However, on her way to my house she picks him up. Then, he spends the night with her and I. As well as, my son and canines. The Savannah, seems to have boned very strongly with my son and to a lesser degree myself. Loki, loves to "rough house" with the dogs. It is amazing, to me at least, that a cat can hold its own with four dogs over 80 lbs. I will also say, it is funny to watch a cat play ball like a dog, enjoy water, and cause general mayhem. She is not so fond of the last one
.

Thank you, for the warm welcome. My only concern, is the domesticated felines and canines. That, seems to be going very very very poorly at the moment.

Thank you, for the kind words on my introduction. I do not exhibit characteristically male behavior, IE: dominance, aggression, and so on. But, it is nice to know the site has other men on it. Lastly, I am not sure what piccies are, but if you explain, I will try and provide you with some.

Welcome to TCS!   We are very happy to have you here!

Thank you, it is very nice to "meet you" as well.

Hi there welcome to tcs

If you have any questions about the site just send me a private message and I will be happy to help

Why, can I only send/receive one PM a day? If that is a probationary period issue, when does that end?

1) That is very interesting that you like cars so much.

2) Isn't love a grand thing? Not to sound too sappy.

3) I always found foreign languages interesting. However, my ability to acquire one, was on par with my ability to spin silk into AU.

4) I teacher "higher" education and find it very disheartening, I can not imagine what it is like to teach High School students.

Thank you, for the compliment on the introduction. What are the "behavioral expectations" of this forum? Or a forum in general.

Hello Laurie
,

Nice to "see" a familiar face. I have to ask, who is Mike? Have I spoken to him? The location of the dog lovers on this forum is? I can see why animal lovers eventually have cats, so many need homes, so many are "discarded", due to the cats reproductive abilities, and just a cats general ability to "worm its way into your heart". We/She, has four. Two that live completely indoors(one by choice and one by behavior need) and two that are indoor/outdoor. Are all eight of your cats indoor only? If so, why?

Thank you for everything so far. Also, thank you for being so kind to my best friend and soon to be wife, as well as my son. My son, thinks the world of you.

Welcome to TCS Thomas!! It's so nice to "meet" you! :D You sound like a wonderful person from the way Mattie describes you. :) I'm glad to hear that Loki and your son are getting along well, I was hoping that would be the case. I'm sure the regular domestics and your dogs will get along after a proper introduction. Is the problem more with the cats or the dogs? (I mean are the dogs more bothered by the cats, or do the cats not like the dogs?)

I'm Mike.  And there is another one here, too.  Mike, that is.

There is a "Cats and Other Animals" section of the forum.

Real Men Love Cats.

I never had anything against cats. I am just a "simply" person, hence, I find relating to dogs easier. But, I am starting to enjoy cats more. However, I am not sure if the cats are enjoying me
.

Thank you, for the nice welcome as well. Mattie, has said wonderful things about you too. Do not believe everything she tells you about me, I am only half as good and useful as she thinks. She always makes me feel warmed, loved, and special. I could not ask for a better wife then her. I truly love her more then anyone can imagine.

As far as the cats v.s. dogs issue, I would say it depends. Two of the cats run from the dogs. One wants to run outside, I believe that is "Momma cat". The other, who lives completely indoors, Panda, just tries to hide when the dogs are around. The real issue, at least in my eyes, is the domestic cat Shadow. Shadow, will try and attach with the intent of killing the dogs, corned or not. Since, a seven pound domestic cat, can not kill the dogs, she sprays them. While, I am not very disgusted, Mattie gets highly upset. She is a very clean person and finds this whole situation to be very troubling.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you very much for all that information. That was very kind of you, to take time out of your day, in order to help me.

P.S., why is everyone deleting my last name?

Hi Thomas, in re. to introducing the kitties to the dogs, you might want to read this and give it a try: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/introducing-cats-to-dogs
Best of luck! :wavey:

Hello Thomas and welcome to The Cat Site! :)

Your last name is being deleted to protect your privacy. :) We tend to watch out for our members around here. ;) I hope you are recovering well from your illness. :)

What type of dogs do you have? Ww do love pictures around here and would love to see some pics. :D As Mike mentioned, we do have a Cats and Other Animals section of the site.

Good luck integrating the animals. Please do read the link Carolina provided, it should be helpful. With Cat Person being a Vet Tech though, I bet she has some tricks up her sleeve that should help move the situation along. :)
