Mine, well it was my mom's I've had for decades and one metal part finally broke off and other-well it had to be treated gently as its really bent.  So I went looking in some stores for a new one.  Man they aren't as well made anymore.  And $$$$$$!

I do sewing as well as weekly ironing.  So many of the ones are so light weight.  And the surface on some is a piece of 3/8" particle board not the metal grate like my current one.  I found one on Amazon for $109.  I'm thinking you get what you pay for!  My sister is using my MIL's old wooden one-now that's old.

Any recent ironing board purchases or advice????

Have you checked at Walmart?  You shouldn't have to pay $109 for an ironing board!

I can't remember where I bought mine, but it's all light weight metal with holes throughout the top, and a padded top and cover.  Now granted I don't iron very often and I mainly bought it so that I could have it next to me when I'm sewing so that I can press seams, but I have actually ironed clothing on it and I've never had it collapse on me.

Wooden? Wow...I don't think I've even seen one like that...

I have a heavy quilting one that DH got me for Christmas a few years back (steel with a padded top). I make a lot of queen/king-size flannel quilts so I needed something that could withstand the weight. He found it at an actual quilting shop - I don't know if you have any around you, but that might be one place to try.

Good ones are hard to find and expensive. It seems like few people, including me, iron much nowadays. On the plus side, a stable metal one lasts for decades. I've seen them at DIY stores.

I don't think I've ever seen a wooden ironing board.

I try to stay away from ironing and only iron if I absolutely have to. Ours is probably about 30 years old and we should get a new one as one of the legs started to break. Rick managed to fix it with some screws, but we have to be careful with it. About the only thing I ironed lately were the linens for Christmas dinner....the tablecloth and napkins. I remember about five years ago, my mother gave me a new iron and I remember thinking.....why?

Wow, $109 for an ironing board!

I use my grandma's old wooden one too.  It's really sturdy, and isn't too high (like most of the new ones seem to be.)  It's well padded, so I can pin creases and do alterations.

You should try looking on eBay.  That's become my 'go to' shopping place.  I can find unusual items, and often at a great price.

I bought an oversized one at Sears yesterday.  I swear it was the same one that Bed Bath & beyond was selling for $109!  I like it as it is higher than my old one.  The cats like it too as they like laying on the old one.  Alas that one I will be taking to the metal recycling place.  It was $50 but I had sears points so I got it for $10 less.

Most people never iron.  I have to do it very regular as my hubby has a lot of dress shirts to be ironed.  In fact I was glad to see this thread and know there are other women still using an ironing board.  LOL
