The two kittens we fostered this fall, we ended up adopting for my brother.  Dottie named them Sugar and Spice.  We had a terrible time with diarrhea, and finally got it calmed down enough to get them spayed.  When it came time to take them to my brother at Christmas time, Sugar's diarrhea flared back up again, so we kept her here to treat her.  Turns out she has giardia.  She just went through a course of panacur, but the problem hasn't cleared up.

But another problem may have reared its ugly head.

When we got home at Christmas, we found a shoe string that had been chewed through.  It looked like it was bloody.  We found the piece that was missing, and it looked bloody, too, but we couldn't see any problem with any of the cats.

However, today I found Sugar in a little box with the end of another cord (a waistband cord from some shorts, my wife tells me) near her, wet.  Missing from the end of it was the knot I had tied in it to keep it from unraveling while it was being played with, and the fuzzy end of it.  I'm afraid Sugar chewed it off and swallowed it.  I'm keeping a close eye on her, and this evening, while it may be my paranoia, she looks like she's not feeling too well.  She did eat some soft food, but not as much as usual.

Keep your fingers crossed and the vibes coming.

Mike, tons of vibes that she is Ok and fully recovers from all her problems soon. Giardia often needs more than one course of drugs to get rid ot it - I had that problem with Persil when she was 7 months old, and she needed three courses. I seem to remember that metronidazole was the final one that cleared it up.

She seems to be doing OK today.  No sign of the string in the litter box, yet.

I hate to give her the metro, because it tasts so awful.

Good news!  I found the piece of string in her poop, this afternoon.

Of course, that just cries out for a treatise on the joys of dissecting cat poop for a couple of days....
