I thought it would be fun to post a Youtube video of the number one song the week you were born.

Here is mine.  Dec 8-21, 1956

Singing The Blues - Guy Mitchell

I don't know how to post a Youtube video from my phone, or if it's even possible. But the #1 song for the week of August 25-September 1, 1979 (actually, all the way to the end of September) was "My Sharona" by The Knacks. laughing02.giftongue.gifdontknow.gif

Oh, yeah, it might be best to tell people how to find that info! I only know because someone posted it on Facebook. Here's the link to the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_number-one_hits_(United_States)

I'm old!!! "Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole. The video is from his show - I don't think there's a video of when it was actually No. 1..... yes, I'm that old! biggrin.gif

This was an earth-shaking song (and video), for a number of reasons.  MTV was still pretty new, and a topic of a great deal of controversey in the music industry.  But this video was high-bucks, and yet was making fun of MTV!  There are rumors that MTV thought about not playing it.  Add in the animation (done in Eastern Europe, I believe, possibly Czechoslovakia), the "video within a video within a video," and the unattributed voicing by Sting, and you had something that really rocked the rockers.  Pile on the guitar playing of Mark Knopfler, one of the very few lead guitarists who don't use a pick, and there's no wonder this song and video make it into the all-time top 10 video lists.

A trivia question that music lovers may get:  What was the first video played on MTV?  The answer:  "Video Killed the Radio Star," by the Buggles.

1948, huh?

Do a wikipedia search on the song; it has quite the history.  I even heard a segment on some NPR show in the last year on the subject of this song and its history.

Yup. 1948.

I know! I had known that was No. 1 when I was born, and I knew it was the song from "The Boy With Green Hair" (starring Dean Stockwell), but I didn't know the whole thing about the guy being sued. It's sort of a cool song, and I've always had an affinity towards it. smile.gif

You youngin's just don't realize how lucky you are now--this is the stuff we oldsters thought was cooler than doggie doo way back then! Actually, I never had MTV then, so I never saw this (nor do I like it), but now I know why it seemed familiar. Here's the Weird Al spoof of it:

Here is one that makes me feel old.  When my oldest son was born, "Genie in a Bottle" by Christina Aguileria was the #1 song (and I actually remember it being that!)...and when my youngest was born, the hit song was "Shake Ya Tailfeather" by Nelly, P. Diddy and Murphy Lee.  Bahaha!

Oh, I didn't say it was a "BAD" song. Just not my style but it's an ok song. :) I kinda like it, my parents remember it of course and like it so it's not so bad after all. agree.gif
