Just saw this over on http://www.50kittens.com on their January 4 entry. Two large plastic tubs of different sizes so they nest. Space between bottom and sides of tubs filled with pink fiberglass insulation. Circular opening in one short side each tub, with Gorilla tape stabilizing / joining the two containers. And bubble wrap between the two lids.

Not as fancy as a wooden shelter but certainly cost effective, easy to "manufacture", and a great way to shelter outdoor cats.

Way to go Ted and Martha!

That's such a good idea! I used to see outdoor cats around my house in the fall, but I haven't seen any in the winter (my neighbour told me they were people's pet cats, not strays) but I think I might have to construct one of these and put it in my yard just incase a kitty is out there.

On a side note - cuteness overload from all the other kitty pictures posted there!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
That's exactly what we have outside. :lol3: We also have a large litterbox wrapped in insulation, wrapped in a contractor's garbage bag (thicker), and duct-taped around the edges so no insulation is exposed, with straw stuffed inside. And a feral villa. And a large plastic drum cut in half with insulation wrapped around it, the whole thing stuffed in a contractor's bag, with a heated pad inside and straw in the back - very snuggly!
