Hello, I am new to this forum, but wanted to reach out before the vet trip. We recently picked up a new kitten. She is a Marbled bengal and came from a local breeder. When we got there, everything seemed to be in order except that they were feeding their cats thawed chickens (de-feathered). She said that she also feeds them raw beef, or basically any other animal. This kitten was born October 17th 2011. She was really smelly when we got her home, so we gave her a bath. I use to feed my old cat Darwin's raw food diet, and had some left over in the freezer (still good/no freezer burn). But we thought her belly seemed a bit over bloated and thought we would try feeding her a kitten specific soft food made by wellness. She has had really bad breath since the day we got her and thought better food would help. Its better now than it was, but it is still really bad. She is a lap kitten already and when she is snuggling, she will occasionally clean herself and I can immediately smell her stinky breath. She plays normal, potties normal, and still has lots of energy but the stinky breath really concerns me. She also always has goopy tears. Her eyes are clear though, and its only like having dry eye boogers on her fur next to her eyes (near the nose). we plan to take her to the vet next week, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what the smell could be from a kitten this age? I have started feeding her raw again (been about 1.5 weeks) on "Rad Cat" raw diet. She is eating Lamb now and loves it. I still have turkey in the freezer, and she already ate the chicken one. I don't know if this is enough information, but I just want her to be ok!!

Thanks :)

My experience with stinky breath has typically been related to gum issues. If she has goopy tears, there is a health issue going on with her, and it could be that her immunity is low and she's also fighting problems in her mouth. I hear you when you are working on her diet right now, but it may have nothing to do with her diet. Have you looked in her mouth to see if there is any redness or inflamation?

A vet visit is definitely in order here.

Welcome to TCS :hugs: !!!!! Congratz on your bengal kitten . I was thinking at first a tooth or teething issues but she is only three month's and the adult teeth don't start coming in till about six month's. But kitten's can have bad breath during the transition from milk teeth to adult teeth. I agree with Amy in that a vet visit will tell you what is going on. I am sure it is nothing serious and let us know how the vet appt. goes. :wavey::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
