I consider peer-reviewed archival journal articles on a topic to be conclusive evidence. It helps that this one is a literature survey.

Plastic Surgery International
Volume 2012 (2012), Article ID 190436, 8 pages
http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/190436
Review Article
Advances in Wound Healing: A Review of Current Wound Healing Products
Patrick S. Murphy and Gregory R. D. Evans
Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Institute, University of California Irvine Medical Center,
200 S. Manchester Avenue, Suite 650, Orange, CA 92868, USA

It has an entire section on the topical use of silver-based treatments in wound care.

If a single person is inspired by AmberMay to follow their veterinarian's instructions, as she did, and treat their cat with a product proven to beat even MRSA, she should pat herself on the back. I am not sure what catman513 is suggesting as an alternative - ignore your vet and listen to random posters on the Internet who choose to ignore decades of wound care research?

I will reiterate for anyone just joining the thread that the original poster's cat underwent two surgeries and had an antibiotic-resistant infection that was later treated, AS INSTRUCTED BY THEIR VET, AND UNDER THE VET'S SUPERVISION, with a silver-based product. She has somehow ended up being accused of promoting irresponsible pet health care, and that is beyond unfair.

TL;DR: Take your cat to the vet when he or she is sick or injured. The vet may prescribe a silver-based treatment for a wound, as AmberMay's did. Hopefully it will work, as it did for her.

I thank everybody for reading and replying.

I have achieved what I wanted (full recovery of my May), and never was this my intention to promote anything, I was just sharing with my friends and people who helped me.

In-case i didn't mentioned earlier in this thread - vets were offering me to put May down, because everything has failed before we introduced CS, and thanks goodness - successfully.

No matter what some opposition says - I'm happy with what I know and use now.  The legacy of this thread to my opinion is first - help of people who cared and spent time on providing valuable advice and their encouragement, and of course - recovered life and health of my cat.  What more can be said?

Ambermay,

I sympathize with your loss.  It is so hard to go through.  I lost one of my most precious cats that way.  You don't ever get over it but the pain eases and you find others that need your love and care which helps them and you.  Anything that has such a deep capacity to love us so much can't be gone forever.  I take comfort remembering a few different Bible verses: "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights" -James 1:17.  "...no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him." -1Cor 2:9.  Also Mat 7:11.

I wanted to thank you for your kind reply and sharing your beautiful photo of Janie.  I am very happy that you continued to post updates of your success with CS even though you were harshly attacked for it.  No argument against CS can hold up to so many great results that we have all had, plus that fact that silver IS used by doctors and hospitals for many many years for infection fighting and healing.  In my experience, I don't think anything wipes out pneumonia in humans or animals quicker than CS.

All 13 of my cats are free of those horrible herpes symptoms that had plagued them for so long.  Only one or two of them will rarely ever sneeze.  A few doses of CS seems to resolve that for months.  All of them are healthy and active.  It is a relief to have easy access to such an effective infection fighter that is also affordable for treating our and our pet's ailments.  I recently started putting some CS in a tiny travel mist spray bottle.  It is easier to apply to cuts and such.  Also a little spray on fresh strawberries keeps them from ever getting mold which is another money saver.  It is also a fairly good alternative to deodorant.  It is just an amazing all around bacteria fighter.  I know someone who was suffering from a chronic itch and had been through several years of doctors treatments and nothing helped.  They had gotten some CS to treat their herpes cats and decided to put it in a spray bottle and apply it to their itchy skin.  Last I heard their daily itchy skin problem hadn't itched once in many many weeks!!!  They also told me it quickly helped a puppy's horrible itchy skin problem as well.   That was nice to learn that CS can also help itchy skin problems.

Thanks again for going to all the trouble you did to inform us of your success with CS.  May God bless you and all your little loved ones.

Sincerely,

Lisa

CS was used in treatment of humans with very good  results by  Drs. before use of  antibiotics become common place, cca 1940. Now days we are going back  to CS, manuka honing  and  other old fashion alternatives because of super bug is now resistant to man made antibiotics. So there should not be opposition to your successful  treatment by any  informed  person.  We had great results  with CS healing an eye infection.

Personally I  find  forums where one member describes his problem or situation in details and another member ( often seasoned) immediately replies :" It  might or might not be serious. Please take your pet to vet ASAP. Only vet can tell you for sure"  useless. While describing an alternative successful treatment is surely good to read about.

The legacy of this thread is a misleading reliance on colloidal silver with which I felt a responsibility to disagree. My comments mean nothing to the OP who now has a recovered cat. But a person joining this thread needs to know that every responsible source of information discredits colloidal silver for medical uses. To the point where it is illegal to even offer the product for sale for such purpose.

The colloidal silver people are a menace to healthy happy cats. I can't put it any other way.

Let me add that any person considering the use of colloidal silver for a medical problem should google the term colloidal silver along with any of the following: the NIH (National Institute of Health) the AMA (American Medical Association) the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and follow the links to any one of those authoritative resources.
Cat forum:

This site is for helping friends of felines to help our friends, animal & non. Cats have more intuition in their right front paw then us humans will ever have! Cats choose us for their homes, we don't choose them! I have a feral cat who was literally here when I bought my home 13 years ago. (I named her Lisa) She wouldn't let me near her let alone touch her. I managed to trap her & spay her & now she is tame enough to let me (& ONLY like 3 other people) touch her. I made insulated, heated cat houses for her & some other strays in my neighborhood & because she knows what great care I'm giving her & the others, they pretty much never leave my yard, they CHOSE ME! I do not believe in big pharma my self, big pharma is big business. (Naturally all of your "informative" links against anything natural is written by those companies that stand to loose a lot of money if we all turn to what GOD put here on this earth for us & quit trusting big pharma!) 4 years ago I almost died. The doctors had me on 6 different chemicals (I mean liver & kidney killing prescriptions) when my doctors weren't helping me & called me a junkie (though they were my 'pushers') I gave up on the medical industry & turned to alternative medicine. Vitamins, minerals, essential oils, neuropathy homeopathic, healing crystals, chiropractic, & acupuncture. GOD gave us everything we need to survive on this earth with out man made chemicals! I feel my cats chose me knowing I'd do the best for them that I possibly can. If I decide that alternative healing is good enough for me , why would it NOT be good enough for my cats! Just recently they started doing construction near me. Lisa not being overly tame has been hiding a lot because of it & the noise but I noticed her eating has slowed down & somedays she would just hide & not come to eat at all. I tried to observe her. When she did come (she does not let me pick her up) I watched her & I noticed she was only eating the soft food & was chewing sideways. I've drawn the conclusion that she must have a bad infected tooth (this is many times fatal in strays) I had some amoxicillin I put in her food with little results so then I turned to my alternative medicine. I started putting out for her COLLIDAL SILVER water & in her food (again, with their intuition they KNOW what their bodies need & will or won't drink it depending) since I watch & observe her, I know where she hides & was putting this food & water in that place. The 1st day I put it out, she ate all the food & drank all the water. The 2nd day she ate all the food & only drank some of the water. By that evening she came out of hiding to have dinner with the other cats. By the 3rd day of putting out this combo she was totally back to NORMAL! She came out to my door & meowed for breakfast, had a normal hungry appetite & was even chewing normal (not sideways) I & Lisa are both living proof alternative medicine works!

If you believe in big pharma so much & want us all to take every cat to a vet feel free to send us all some money to do so!!!

Cats are said to have 9 lives. This is because their own immune system is so powerful that they typically recover from infections and injuries that would certainly kill other animals. I am happy for those who have had cats return to good health for any reason. But, attributing it to colloidal silver is like attributing rain to a rain dance.

I'll take my cat to a competent vet if he gets sick. And, I don't need anyone else's money to do so.^^^

You know, I would have to disagree with you. My cat has had a cyst on the side of his mouth for the last several years. The vet has drained it, only to have it grow back. Surgery is too risky since he'll be 16 this year and I don't want to put him through it.

I finally decided to give him a half dropperful dailyof cs for the last week. I was a little alarmed that the cyst got bigger but it has now developed a hole and is slowly draining. I'm going to keep giving him the cs. Nothing else I've given him has done this.

Hi there! I just joined this site and read all 6 pages of this thread. I'm so glad colloidal silver helped heal the wound!! You're an awesome pet mom!

How do you get colloidal silver from a person who makes it? How did you find your supplier?
I found my supplier through my vet.  She gave me her details, but now I'm buying silver from a company I found.

Are you kidding me?...I have only used colloidal silver on my 13 yr old manx..and he was very sick many times from different viruses..and each time he pulled thru bouncing back quickly and better than ever...Please do not discredit Colloidal Silver...because my cat is a true testimony it really works!!  Also my niece had a rotweiler puppy that had the Parvo virus..again we administered the colloidal and he also made a complete recovery within a couple days.

A feral kitten I found at four weeks old, with runny eyes and nose, is seven months old now and was much improved until allergy season arrived. His left eye became runny and red and swollen.

A trusted friend who is also in rescue recommended ASAP Silver Gel. I'm a hippy at heart but have resisted some things, colloidal silver for one.

I read all the research posted on this thread, pro and con, and decided to give it a try. The results were astounding. Within 12 hours noticeable improvement and in 2 days, his eye is almost completely back to normal.

I also changed the AC filter - I'm sure that helped but I don't believe it would have made this kind of a difference.

Colloidal silver isn't considered safe or effective for any of the health claims manufacturers make. Silver has no known purpose in the body. Nor is it an essential mineral, as some sellers of silver products claim.

Colloidal silver products are made of tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid — the same type of precious metal used in jewelry, dental fillings, silverware and other consumer goods.

Colloidal silver products are usually marketed as dietary supplements that are taken by mouth. Colloidal silver products also come in forms to be injected or applied to the skin.

Manufacturers of colloidal silver products often claim that they are cure–alls, boosting your immune system, fighting bacteria and viruses, and treating cancer, HIV/AIDS, shingles, herpes, eye ailments and prostatitis.

However, no sound scientific studies to evaluate these health claims have been published in reputable medical journals. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims.

It's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr–JIR–e–uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.

Anyone who promotes colloidal silver as safe and approved by the FDA is going by very old documentation. Until 1996 it was on the list as not needing approval because it was a pre-1938 drug and so not requiring approval. The latest FDA position is dated 2014 and states:

Quote
What the Science Says About the Effectiveness of Colloidal Silver

Scientific evidence doesn’t support the use of colloidal silver dietary supplements for any disease or condition.
[emoji]9726[/emoji]Silver has no known function or benefits in the body when taken by mouth.
[emoji]9726[/emoji]Silver is not a nutritionally essential mineral or a useful dietary supplement.
[emoji]9726[/emoji]People may be exposed to silver, usually in tiny amounts, through air, water, and food, and in certain activities such as jewelry-making or soldering.
[emoji]9726[/emoji]Colloidal silver products are sometimes sold as homeopathic remedies. For more information on homeopathy, see nccih.nih.gov/health/homeopathy.
[emoji]9726[/emoji]Topical silver (used on the skin) has some appropriate medical uses, such as in bandages and dressings to treat burns, skin wounds, or skin infections. It’s also in medicines to prevent conjunctivitis (an eye condition) in newborns.

  • [*] However, there are no legally marketed prescription or over-the-counter drugs containing colloidal silver that are taken by mouth
    [*]
    [*]
.
I have underlined the key sentence. So anyone trying to market colloidal silver as an approved drug or supplement to be taken by mouth is fraudulent.

In the past, this discussion has degenerated to a conflict between traditional medicine and homeopathy or alternative medicine. That is a valid conflict as we all know that medical doctors have ignored alternative medicines in favor of what they have been taught in medical school. A valid conflict.

But, colloidal silver has not been adopted by serious promoters of alternative medicine. The NCCIC which is the most reliable source for alternative medicine information does not adopt colloidal silver, basically warning users with the same concerns as the FDA and medical doctors.

At the end of the day, the main proponents of colloidal silver are usually in the stream of its commerce in one way or another.

The biggest risk is that cats respond well to conventional medical treatment such as anti-fungal anti-bacterial medicines. Proponents of colloidal silver often withhold these valuable medicines on the theory that colloidal silver will do the job. The good news, is that cats have nine lives. So many times, a serious cat infection will go away if a cat's human treats it with orange juice, air freshener, or colloidal silver.

My cat is fine ever since without effects on her health, and so others.

And as Carolina said - I'll never go without CS.

Orange Juice?  Ha, ha, Did you even investigate that citruses are toxic to cats?

Not everything that is good for humans is good for animals.

Nine lives? - Please...  Don't even try to humor me.  That is just for people who believe in stories.  Yes, cats are stronger than humans - so what?

I have constant advise from my Vets!!!

By the way - they adopted using SC in their surgeries and it worked!!!

You must be working for Drug industry, having butted into this post of mine.

Even if not - sorry, I have not used much groovy drugs myself and will not.

I treat myself by means of I know and how...

Myself and my mom will do what it takes to stay healthy, and most drugs sold are no good - side effects exist.

Silver - doesn't.

All my cats are fine, including May, but me and my mother are now better for the natural medicine.

I understand why some will critique this, but we - we don't care what you say - no matter what links you post.

Just to let everyone know - my DH died on 1st Jan 2016 being only on prescribed medications from doctors he trusted.

CS helped my cat, it still is helping all my animals and us.  And we still WILL use natural vs drugs.

Don't bother to reply.  Nothing will change.

Yes, we chose this - and better for it...

So, less money for drug sellers - so what - we don't care.
