No sooner has he got over his urinary blockage than Bonaparte has got problems again. Yesterday I noticed his tail didn't look right and when I stroked him I found that there is a huge swelling on it, about halfway down. As soon as he felt me touch it he leapt round and bit me, so the poor boy is obviously in pain. I don't think it is broken, he is carrying it OK but maybe he has been bitten and it has abscessed, though it feels quite hard. He is eating OK but just seems a bit quiet. He sprayed this morning too, all over the woodburner, telling me he is not happy. So we are off to the vet again this afternoon.

Poor boy.  Sounds like an abscess, but I hope it's nothing too serious.  He goes outside, right?

Well, he does have an abscess - the vet found the entry point of the bite as I held him, and he was very good. So he is now on antibiotics for ten days. I think Milo probably bit him - there was a terrible cat fight three days ago and when I rushed in to see what was going on there were four cats chasing Bonaparte. I don't know why they picked on him, except that Milo has been baiting him recently in a domination contest, and sometimes the others wait to see who is winning and then pitch in on the winning side.

I had one of those - I will give him Metacam- oh no you won't- talks with the vet, who was astonished to hear my views on it. So I have referred her to some of the research on it and she says she will look it all up. She has only recently joined the practice, and so far I have found her very caring, thorough and knowledgeable, and she was certainly prepared to be educated.

Glad you know what's up with Milo and that your vet listened to your concerns about Metacam.  There are better drugs.

Sorry I didn't post last night - I went to see a friend yesterday afternoon about two hours' drive away near Mont St Michel, and I could not get back. The wind and rain were so violent I did not dare set out - I would have been on minor roads and there were tree branches flying everywhere.. I had Tasha with me, and I had left plenty of food and water for the cats, so I knew they might be angry with me when I got back but they would be OK. All had calmed this morning and I drove back safely. Anyway, Bonaparte is much better - the tail swelling has gone down a lot and he is desperate to get out. But he will stay inside for at least a couple more days.

It's good to hear there's been an improvement. Yesterday was wicked here, too. First we had a pretty violent thunderstorm, then hail, then snow with really high winds. Traffic just stopped. Austria got pounded by the same storm today, and several towns are simply cut off.

More :vibes: for Bonaparte.
