Has anyone tried the Nok Out carpet cleaning solution?

So while I went to visit my family over the holidays I left the kitties with a pet sitter. I guess they were upset that I was not there and started using the carpets for their litter box. The pet sitter thought they were only pooping out of the box but I have discovered they have peed everywhere too. I have been trying to get the smell out using natures miracle because that is what a friend recommended. The smell is still very much there and I have treated the carpets in the spots I can find twice and I thoroughly soaked them probably way more than I needed too. I was looking around for a different product to see if it would help and have seen that Nok Out seems to have great reviews. I have a feeling there are spots I just cant find and treating my entire carpet is the best solution, but pouring that much enzyme cleaner on it would take a ton of solution. So I was thinking about renting a rug doctor and using the Nok Out carpet cleaner in it. Do you think this will work or will I just make the problem worse, because I read somewhere carpet cleaners just spread the pee around?

Or maybe if you have never used it, maybe know of something else that might work?

I've not tried Nok Out (it's not available in my area) but I know some others here swear by it. I've tried Nature's Miracle too, and found it was okay, but not great.

The best solution I've ever come across was a home remedy posted here years ago by on of our members, pee-cleaner.

2 cups hydrogen peroxide
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 drops liquid dish soap

I used this when our Cottonrbheart.gif  had a rather large accident in the middle of our bed and it work beautifully. If the carpet is dark, you might want to test it first, but I would get a black light, check your carpet and spot treat everything before cleaning he whole rug.

Good luck!

Nok Out is only available on-line which is why I am hesitant to try it in the carpet cleaner. I am trying this some enzyme cleaner a friend of mine swears works, it is still drying in the spots I can find, I am waiting for a black light I ordered to arrive in the mail. I really want to try renting a carpet cleaner, but at the same time I am scared that it will just spread the smell around instead of fixing it. I have seen the recipe before, but haven't tried it, I might try it, it cant hurt right?

A good carpet cleaner should pick up more than it spreads around. I wish I could remember what it was called, but there is a carpet cleaner out there that specifically sucks liquid out of carpets (my parents use to own one), so that might be something to look for if you rent one. I don't think it can hurt. If the cleaner you have doesn't do the trick, it's just one more option. As for the cleaner spreading the pee around...I've not heard that. I suspect as long as you have enzyme solution in the carpet cleaner, you should be okay, but I can't say I've ever tried. dontknow.gif
