Hi All ... I'll start with the finish ... Paddy is currently missing. And it's a really strange, out-from-under-our-noses type of disappearance (and I may be nervous a bit prematurely).

With it being a gorgeous, crisp day, this lunchtime my bro and I decided to take a walk round the field that adjoins the farm. It's broadly a rectangular shape and, with the farm being about 35 acres, I'd say the full perimeter is between 1.5 and 2 miles.

As is her endearing way, Paddy decided to join us for the walk and it didn't take her long to flush out a glorious pheasant that, fortunately, got away. My brother has never seen Paddy in this mode and he was laughing away at her following us around like a dog, clearly a happy little soul with her tail in the air, scampering around the place.

When we turned the first corner (so just under 25% into our stroll), I noticed Paddy was lagging a little and she let out a meow to me. At this point I remember saying to my brother 'I think she wants to go back'. But she continued to walk near us.

And then, when I looked for her 20-30 seconds later, she'd gone. I had my binoculars with me and checked for her but couldn';t see her. So we continued our walk - I figured she'd just headed back to the farmhouse in the distance (and I should add at this juncture that she has done this walk with me before) but when we returned from our walk about 45 minutes later there was no sign of her in her little hut. For the last 4-5 hours I've retraced my steps, gone all over the farm and even slowly driven the car down the narrow country lane that goes down the side of the farm where we last saw her, but to no avail. For interest, this is the big field in which I saw Ruby about 6-8 weeks ago.

Typcial of a gorgeous, crisp day, it has turned into a very chilly evening here - we must be at 0 degrees C/ 32 F, I reckon. And so I'm getting a little worried - I'm used to opening the back door and seeing her toddle out from her hut for a bit of a fuss and so I suspect she must be quite frightened.

It's too early to get frantic, but I'm certainly more than a little concerned.

Any ideas on what might have happened/ what I can do? It was a 'turn your back for 20 seconds' affair, and I feel terribly guilty (although, as my brother has said, how could we stop her from following us?) If she's not about in the morning, I'll get fly-postering locally ... but any other suggestions appreciated.

Can you find this exactly or roughly place where you lost her?  Return there in the evening or dawn, listen and shout her name now and then.   If she say, fell into something, or climbed up, you will hopefully hear her meowing.

Are there trees to climb up into?  Look up into the trees, use a flashlight (you will see the eyes).

Lets hope it wasnt no fox catching her.

Good luck!   *vibes*

I had a barn cat once, named Bunny.... She would follow us ALL over the property (20 acres) even when I was on horseback. She always would disappear at some point on the ride and must have found something interesting that attracted her attention away from following us. Bunny ALWAYS found her way back, never failed. BUT she would sometimes be gone for many hours and once we didn't see her until the next day. Try not to worry so much, just yet. I am sure since you said she has followed you before, she does know the way back. They are extremely savvy at knowing just how far is safe. I think her stopping was just her way of telling you, "I am going over here - see ya later - I am off to romp and play" I would have done the same thing - retrace the walk - and just call to her. She is there!!!!!!! and I am sure she will be back :kitty3:  I will be sending you calming vibes and vibes for Paddy to show back up tonight :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I bring good news...she's back.

After posting, I had two fruitless tours round the farm. As I was setting off what was going to be my 3rd and final tour about 40 mins ago, she ran up to me from the back of the farm.

Glad she's back - and hey, I can always use the exercise - but she clearly had found something completely fascinating that distracted her!! She really has become the little farm cat!

That's great news! Having just experiencing a cat reappear after going missing for more than 24 hours, I know what a relief it is when they show up again.

Buckley escaped from the cattery home where he was being resocialized to be placed into a Forever Home.  He returned to the colony where I trapped him, two miles away, two weeks later.

I returned him to the cattery about two months ago, he is a changed cat, much more docile.  And the last day of this year, was adopted into a Forever Home.

I miss him already.

I can lose my cats in a 1700 sq ft home, I can't imagine how much time I would spend looking for them on 35 acres!

Glad she's home. And I bet she had an attitude like "what is wrong....I was just out for a walk, no need to panic, jeez!". Lol
