Growling

I'm happy to report that Shyster has ventured out of the couch, which is where he was hiding the first time I posted in this forum.  He still likes to spend the majority of his time in the couch, but he ventures out and explores while I'm awake and in the room.  He is definitely not yet interested in giving me the time of day, but intently watches me as I go about my business.  I know he's still trying to get used to me, and I'm happy that he's comfortable enough to come out and relax.  However, when I talk to Shyster, he constantly growls.  Sometimes it starts as a high-pitched meow, and drops to a low growl, and sometimes he just flat-out growls.  None of the other cats I've owned have ever growled, so I'm not sure what's going on with the little dude.  Any suggestions or insight?

He is still settling in and getting used to his surroundings. I've actually had fosters who would do a half growl/meow/purr while I was petting them! Just kind of a "Hey, I'm working on it, I don't hate you, but here's a bit of a warning that I'm not totally comfortable here." kind of thing. One day at a time! vibes.gif
