So I promptly took him to the vet. The vet said he most likely has a respiratory infection. The vet prescribed 7 days of Baytril (22.7). Abraham is on his third day of his pills (1 pill per day). Does anyone have any experience with this illness or medication? Abraham is eating, playing, and going to the bathroom normal. He is still wee zing a bit though. Also he is an indoor cat and has been since we got him from a shelter a year ago. Also he has had all of his shots and has not been in contact with any other cats. :vibes:

Continue the antibiotics for the prescribed length of time, if you don't want to have to do it all over again, with a stronger antibiotic for a longer time.  Quitting an antibiotic too soon is a sure way to culture resistant bacteria.

He likely had the human equivalent of a cold, and the antibiotics are for the secondary infections.

Thanks, I would never discontinue, I was just wondering when I should notice a difference. Also not related to the above post, but do cats loose their wiskers? This is my first cat and I noticed one on his blanket a few minutes ago. The doctor asked me if Abraham was a rough kitty because he said he had a broken one also! I am a paranoid parent!!!!

Yes, cats shed their whiskers all the time.

As for the antibiotic, just like in humans it can take 3 days or more to see any type of difference.  If he's still congested, you can try steaming him in the bathroom.  Just get the bathroom nice and steamy, cut off the water, and then sit in the bathroom with your kitty (you can play with him or just sit) until the steam dissipates.  He may be wheezing due to being congested.

Whiskers are modified hairs, and they fall out and are replaced on a regular basis.

Often you'll see some improvement in a day or two with the antibiotics, but it takes the full run to be sure.
