Hello :)

This is my first time on a forum, and also my first time having a cat! Actually, I don't have a cat, but my boyfriend just got one a couple days ago from the animal shelter. And since I've never had a cat in my life, I thought I'd join this forum to learn about these wonderful animals!  I've always loved cats and this is the closest I've gotten to having one so I'm very excited :)

So here's the story. Two days ago I went with my boyfriend and his sister to the ASPCA looking for a cat to adopt. We were looking for a cat with these specifications: has to be female (mom feared male cats would pee on everything), has to be declawed, has to get along with dogs (boyfriend's family has three small dogs), and has to be spayed. Since we only found two declawed cats at the ASPCA (one was about 14 years old, and the other one had no information about whether or not she got along with dogs), we decided to continue our search at the county animal shelter. We looked around for declawed cats at the shelter, but we were told there were only two that were declawed. One turned out to be male, and no one knew where the other one was. While the volunteers were looking for the whereabouts of the other declawed cat, we went into another room to look at more cats. This is where I found Chloe, a grey and white tabby with the prettiest eyes in the world. She was meowing and it was obvious she wanted to come out and play. Before I got my hopes up, I checked her information and was excited to read that she's declawed, spayed, and got along well with dogs! I informed everyone of Chloe and my boyfriend took an instant liking to her as well. We got her out and held her for two minutes, but it didn't take us long to realize she was the perfect cat for us! We filled out the paper work and took little Chloe (who we renamed "Pippa") home. During the car ride we had her in a carrier but decided to let her out because she was meowing a lot, she was curious and walked all over the car. She was very well behaved and didn't seem very shy.

Some information about Pippa : She's two years old, her owners surrendered her because someone in the household was allergic to cats, it said she liked to play with string and sit in people's laps. The sheet also said she got along well with dogs, while that may be the case, she's been really afraid of the dogs in the house. The dogs are kept downstairs and so Pippa has learned to avoid this area as much as possible. Yesterday her and one of the female dogs (Bindi) got in an altercation, Pippa was sitting on a chair and hissed at Bindi who sat there looking up at her, Bindi then growled at her and jumped up trying to reach her. She hasn't reacted that way with the other two dogs, she's not friendly but she's also not hostile so I guess she just needs some time getting to know the dogs. The house is pretty big so it's easy to keep her separated from the dogs if it comes down to that. She's getting along great with the family however, she's very sweet and she loves to be petted. She's been following my boyfriend around the house, and has also been sleeping with him in his bed. My boyfriend also has two geckos in his room, and she's been pretty curious about them as well (she can see them but she can't reach them). She's actually really alert and she reacts to every noise she hears, sometimes acting a bit skittish (maybe she thinks the dogs are near?). When she's downstairs she's extra cautious and runs away at any noise, but she'll slowly come back. I think she likes being with people. She also likes to jump on the counters in the kitchen so we're using the "spray water on her" method to teach her not to go up there. Overall she's a veryyy sweet and friendly cat, and I can't wait to get to know her more! :)

Coming Home!!

She's a beautiful kitty.  Sounds like she's adjusting well and will have no trouble making friends with everybody.
