How much L-Lysine and Buffered Vitamin C for a ~4 month old kitten

As in http://www.thecatsite.com/t/239930/new-cat-name-thread - I adopted a cat today.  He's about 4 months old.

I want to put him on L-Lysine and Buffered Vitamin C to help avoid developing a URI from anything he might have caught from other cats up for adoption.

I bought L-Lysine capsules - 500 mg and Buffered Vitamin C capsules (2000mg ascorbic acid, 380mg Calcium, 208mg Magnesium).

These doses are too high for a cat I would imagine.  I got capsules so I can just get the powder out.  I need to know ~mg of each the new cat should get, so I can properly measure the powder and adjust.  These were the lowest doses btw that I could find at The Vitamin Shoppe (intentionally so).

I know nothing about Vit C, but for lysine, you can give 250mg a day, broken up into 2 doses.

Thank you.  Does anybody know about the buffered vitamin C?

I do not know about the vit. C and would not advise giving that unless you talk with your vet first. That could change the PH in the urine and make it more acidic. A good kitten diet will contain the proper amounts of Vit. C. The Lysine is just fine to give. For a four month old kitten, would only give 250 mg. Once per day. Congratulations on your kitten clap.gifclap.gif

Yeah, it's new for me and the acidic urine was a concern of mine. The adoption/Foster program I adopted from recommended it but didn't give me a dosage. I gave my kitten a tiny amount today to be safe but will inquire further about either not continuing it or modifying the dosage. It's just for a few days until I know he's not going to develop kennel cough or a URI.

Yeah, even better, the cat himself makes the vit c, so vit C isnt essential vitamine for cats.

But I suppose the people in the program and you are thinking about vit C as the good protector from colds-viruses?  Ok, try  some if if you believe in this. But dont overdo.

But if you do find a good source of vitamine E, it can never hurt with some extra vitamine E.  There are many situations where vit E additon is positive, even necessary.

The most easy, at least here in Sweden we do have a cat treat,  VitaBe.  It contains as the name suggests, lotsa of B-vitamines.  And also some E-vitamine.
