Vibes for Riley

At the vet with Riley. He's lost 10 oz since October. They ran another T4 and it was normal. Other bloodwork is normal too. They are taking an X-ray now to rule out anything else. That's a lot of weight for such a little guy.

Send vibes if you have them. Just want him to be OK.

Sigh, we are back home. He had to have an emergency enema. The color of the feces is consistent with pancreas problems. Have to go back next week for a pancreas test but he has to be on a 12 hour fast so we couldn't do it today.

We have prebiotics to administer every day that will help his pancreas process food and absorb the nutrients better.

Life couldn't resist one last kick for 2011.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I don't know anything about pancreas problems... I just hope this is something that can be easily treated. cross.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifhugs.gifheartpump.gif

Arthur is my ht kitty, who has pancreas probs as well.  I mix viokase powder into his food 10 minutes before ;he eats to "pre digest" it for him.  It does keep the weight on him.  They gave him an ultrasound to determine his pancreatic insufficiency.  He also takes milk thistle, per the vets instructions.  ;The ultra sound showed undigested food in his intestines..  lots of it.   His pancreas obviously needed some help.

I hope your kitty gets better.  It sounds like you are doing all the right things.  Just thought I'd add Arthurs story if it helps at all.

Thanks LDG and farleyv. I'll talk to the vet about milk thistle. We won't be able to have the test done until Tuesday so we can take him in on Monday night and leave him there. There is no way we can keep him at home the night he has to fast.....he is a very difficult kitty when he wants something and I would get no sleep if he is hungry. And withholding food from him means we have to withhold food from the other 4 kitties....there would be a mutiny.

He's tired tonight, alternating between eating and sleeping. He had a terrible day, poor guy.

I'm taking Riley in for his 12 hour fast at the vets office. With 5 cats it would be impossible to fast him here so it's off to the vet. I'm going to miss the little man tonight.

I was stopping by to ask if this week is "next week," but see you took him in last night. So is he back home? Any comments from the vet? or do you have to wait for a radiologist report? Oh - wait - it wasn't an ultrasound. When will you have test results? vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifhugs.gifhugs.gifhugs.gif

Yes, he went in last night and I picked him up at lunch today. He was not happy! He had an fPLI test and there are only two labs in the country that read them so it will be a few days before we hear anything. His appetite is insatiable and he will eat us out of house and home if we don't hear something soon.

He still isn't having bowel movements. I hope this test gives us some direction.

Here he is when he finally got home. He was shooting daggers.

Well, his pancreas is fine, however, he's lost another 2 oz.  And, he threw up this morning, a huge amount of undigested food. Seriously, that had to be a day or two's worth of food, which is no good.

Xrays show nothing. We'll start considering an ultrasound. We did one for Cleo and it didn't show us anything and she still withered away on us. He's a little guy, he doesn't have much room to keep losing.

I think it may be a long year.

Can you ask the vet about digestive enzymes to help him in the meantime? And is he on probiotics? Both might help. heartpump.gif

He is on the viokase farleyv mentioned up thread. I'm going to go ahead and start milk thistle as well, it can't hurt.  I'm feeling very defeated tonight. I've never dealt with so many 'unknown' illnesses is my cats before.
