The little black kitty that we took in has made a major accomplishment tonight... she got in the litter box and pooped all by herself!! Yes, we praised and did a little dance
Now, at first she would go in a corner to poop, but she would pee on my dogs' puppy pad... so I started putting puppy pads in her two spots, then I bought a regular litter box (we use totes) thinking maybe she was afraid to get in the big boxes... no luck with that but she was sticking to the puppy pads...
...so I put a puppy pad in the little litter box and just a little litter around the edge... she started peeing in it, I added more litter and removed the pad, she continued peeing there... still only pooping on one pad that was in a corner of my room. Mind you, I was very happy for her to use the pad and not my carpet.. and she would fold it up into a nice neat little package when she finished
...anytime I would catch her going to that one spot, I would pick her up and put her in the box... she would go and then run away fast, but tonight I'm sitting here checking my facebook and she jumps right in and does it all by herself, no coaxing or anything... I am so proud! (non cat people just wouldn't understand)

Congrats!! And yes, you're right, non-cat people just wouldn't understand. I have to keep reminding myself when women at work talk about potty training that I would be just has happy as they are if it was one of my cats. It's hard not to look at them and say "..and I should be excited about your child's potty habits why??".

But for OUR babies, it is a big deal! You know, people say that cats are easy to litterbox train, and that isn't always the case. A LOT depends on the mommy cat and the personality of the kitten. Some are just stubborn and want to go where they want to go. I'm still working with one that goes where ever she wants when she is upset with something.

This is a great accomplishment! You should be proud of yourself. Just thank god kitten pee and poop is so small and easy to clean up.
