New Cats Hiding and Medication

Hi,

Not sure if this is a cat health question or behavior question so will post in both...

I brought home two adopted 2 year-old cats (sisters) yesterday. They both have mild conjunctivitis and I have the vet-prescribed eye-drops to treat them but my concern is whether I should interrupt their hiding to give them their medicine?

One has been hiding out under a couch since she arrived while the other has been out and about a bit but has gone back to hiding under the bed for most of today.I'm not sure if they are eating and drinking but if so, it is not very much even though they have food and water readily available.

I'm not concerned about the hiding as I understand this is quite normal but I don't know if I should interrupt their hiding to give them their medicine. I know that normally you would try to disturb a cat as little as possible during this sort of adjustment period but I'm of two minds in this case. On one hand, I'm concerned about them not getting their medicine but on the other I"m also concerned about that disturbing them to give them their medicine will make their adjustment all that much harder.

Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm with you, and since its 50/50, I'd just give my vet a call and allow that vote to be the "coin-toss" decision maker.

If the illness isn't life threatening, I do side with delaying the meds for a couple of days until they settle in. But I agree with Ducman - call the vet and get their advice.
