<~Blanca' sleeps thru EVERYTHING!! She falls asleep in the most weird postions and places. This one isactually not that bad!

I would like to commence by divulging condolence and sympathy to your babies. However, your genuine benovence and expirences will help future cat owners take precautions for there white cats. So thank you for that! I am EXTREMLY SORRY!!

After scanning the collection of white cat info.. I become cognizant, most I never knew..
This past summer was my white cat "Blanca's" 1st. She didn't really have any probs. she's only 1. I aquired her by some idiot dropping momma off in our neighborhood, preggers, and we took her in. He mother, Lil' is the sweetest, abundantly loyal, angelic sweatheart. Low and behold, 3 weeks later, July 29, 2010 ..LIl' gave birth <the only night we were both our of town, under our firplace, on a cold slab of rock ;-(  >  having 3 twin gray looking calicos, and one white kitten.

I went about deliberating, "why does she sleep so much longer than the others." Nothing seemed to wake her. Later, I heard from someone, deafness was prevalent in white cats. Finally, I realized. I found the other cats good home.. and the momma and "deafy" stayed with us. I wanted to make sure she was well cared for. I didn't want her to go outside, at all, however, she wasn't having it. She saw momma going out and wanted to explore.

Recently I have noticed she will not stay out as long as other cats. I am from WV and we have variable seasons and temps. In the winter it can reach 10 degrees and the summer 90. Are they susceptible to hot and cold weather?? For example, do they have less protection, in other words, is the white folical thinner and doesn't allow her to stay warm in the winter; oppisitly, not enough hair to safe gaurd in the extremes of summer??
Thankfully, I presently know, to put sunscreen on her when she goes out. But what brands? Is there cat sunscreen? or is the reg sunscreen ok? Is there anything else I must know about my white cat! Thank you for the info!!!

Hi there! I love white cats and have three. Most white cats are not actually deaf, it is a condition usually associated with white cats who also have blue eyes, which does not seem to be the case with yours. Are you sure she is deaf? How have you tested her? And that is no reason for her to sleep longer than other cats. There may be something else going on.

You are right about skin problems. White cats can get skin cancer much more easily than other cats, and some kinds of allergies and eczema. I use a high factor baby sun block on my ones in summer, on the ears and noses especially, even if they are only lying on windowsills. Two of mine do have other genetic problems, one with his eyes where he has no tear duct, and one who had a malformation of her diaphragm that caused it to rupture and needed a life-saving operation The shelter where I foster say they always have more health problems with white cats than with others, though this is only their opinion. But I love my white cats and would never be without them.

Hi:)  First of all I love your pics and thank you for being such a good mom to your cats.  My cat Lucas is not white, but he used to be when he was a baby, but his skin is so pink and so is his nose, and his eyes are blue.  When I first took him to the vet he told me some white cats with blue eyes could be deaf, but my Lucas isn't, so it doesn't happen to all of them.  But he told me he shouldn't be exposed to the sun, in fact Lucas can't be exposed to the sun in any way but that is another subject.

If she is sleeping too much I think you should take her to the vet, maybe there's something else going on, I hope nothing serious.
