My cat, Valentino, is a 7 y.o. neutered male maine coone mix. He continues to poop and pee outside his box. Here is some history. When I got him, he lived with 3 large dogs. He grew up thinking he was a dog. To keep the dogs out of his food we fed him on the bathroom counter and kept his litter box in the garage with a cat door big enough for him but too small for the dogs. Then he gradually stopped using the box all together. Then I moved. He now had only a puppy, a litter box, he never used in the garage, and a cat door in an exterior wall. His food was still located in the 2nd bathroom. Then I moved again. This house had no cat door to the outside. I installed a cat door to the garage and his box was located in the garage. When we moved he had a series of peeing on my bed, the spare bed and my daughters bed. I took him to the vet... no health problems. I took home some spray that makes him think he already marked and used it on the beds regularly. This stopped the peeing on the bed but now he was pooping outside his box. I started scooping more often. Kind of helped but still had incidents of pooping in the floor. I switched litter brands. I got one that was more fine which resulted in him sleeping in the box (weird). This caused him to get mats.
I moved again. His litter box is in the laundry room. His food is on the kitchen floor (trained the dog to leave it alone). Again, mostly peeing in the box but pooping outside on occasion. He is a large cat, 20#s. I thought he needed a bigger box so I got the biggest one I could find. This worked for a little while. Then his mats got out of control (spring time), so we got him shaved. He loved it. He gets grumpy when his hair starts to get too long. So he gets a lion cut every 2-3 months. He is a really strange cat. He is not very affectionate. He likes to talk to you in the morning until you finally follow him to his food bowl and watch him eat. He doesn't like to be pet much. He will tolerate it for a minute or so and then grab your hand for a nibble, purring the whole time. They say that cats aren't mean and vindictive... I'm not so sure.
We've been in this house for almost a year. Now, it is getting ridiculous. He poops on the floor several feet in front of the box, whether the box is clean or not. Sometimes he pees on the floor. On Christmas day he peed on my daughters bed. Two weeks before that he peed on my bed.
I've had it. Please help.
