My dad had issues with PSA numbers.  Had radiation seeding a number of years ago but the numbers went back up.  So rather than have the surgery to remove prostate and face the potential urinary tract issues he had is an alternate surgery (you can pm me for info).  This was a couple of years ago.  This surgery could create some other side effects which we will watch for.  My mom has had both ovarian cancer and a stage one breast cancer in the past.  Both had treatments of cancer within the same year but not at the same time.

So I can what you are feeling.  Sending vibes to you and your family.  Stay positive!

Can I get some extra vibes tomorrow from the TCS crew. :vibes:My step mom is going to the university for a 7 hour surgery to have her lymph nodes removed to try and stop the spread of the cancer as well as to remove the ones that tested positive. My father and her will be there for 3-4 days (which overlaps his 60th birthday as well) Please send whatever vibes you can to hope this will stop the spread for her and that the surgery goes without a hitch!

In case anyone was wondering:

The update on my step-mom is, she went through a 7 1/2 hr surgery yesterday t remove her lymph nodes. She lost a lot of blood but they gave her more. She was sitting up today and is off her pain pump. She is nauseous but otherwise looks good considering.. She still has to be there for a few more days to recover and we'll hopefully find out that the cancer hadn't made it into any more of the nodes or any further. (She has Merkel Cell Carcinoma)

Thanks for all the thoughts from everyone. Yesterday was a rough day for me, I can only image what my father is going through. :(

Update today is not much of an update. She says she feels like she was run over by a truck but otherwise good. Just a waiting game right now. They are still at the university hospital while she is recoverying from the surgery. I'm thinking still a day or two before she gets to come home. Real waiting game is to see if the cancer has gone into the other lymph nodes that were removed & see if it's spread further. :(

Thanks all for the vibes!!!! :D

Many
for your step-mom and dad, and many
for you. Considering she was just cut open and had parts of her anatomy removed, I can understand her feeling like she was run over by a truck. I know DH had many more "colorful" ways to describe how he felt after his hernia surgery and it wasn't near as invasive as this must have been. But, it sounds like the surgery went well with no major complications so that is a good thing. Now, to get those results back and see if it did the trick

Thanks for the continued vibes. They are home now... :woohoo: My father said she still felt like heck and that she was very sore, tired and ornery and fell asleep in her recliner. My thoughts on that ared be I would be too! So, atleast they are home now and she can try to be more comfortable and relaxed.

This is a responce from my step-mom:

"Thank you to all who have said prayers, sent good wishes, flowers, cards, gifts, food, even a beautiful quilt. You have no idea how loved and protected you've made me feel; and to the people I've never even met, you are all so wonderful and compassionate; may God bless you all. Each day I feel a little stronger, I'm sure by next week I'll feel more like my old self again. When this heals up then I'll be starting 8 weeks of radiation...and then hopefully that will be it.

Thank you again to all of you wonderful people~"

Thank you all so much for all your vibes!

I always said ornery is a good thing (just don't tell my husband that, he's ornery enough as it is). You just tell your step-mom and your dad that they are still in our prayers. I'm so glad she's home and recovering. I'm so sorry she has to go through radiation, hopefully it won't be too bad for her.

How's your dad doing?

He's already done his first hormone injection, goes for his next in April. When he had it last time he did the seed injections which has gotten him this far, but is also what had caused the blood clots issue over the last month. He says he is fine, not to worry about him, worry about her. But he's my daddy, so I'll always worry about him more.
