Spraying issues

About 3 months ago I adopted Monroe, a 3 year old neutered male cat that I found in my neighborhood. He's super friendly and affectionate but unfortunately he's spraying all over my apartment. I tried Feliway and even some anxiety medication that my vet prescribed but nothing seems to work. Sometimes the spraying will stop for a few days but then it starts again. I have another male cat who is 9 years old. They tolerate each other but there are still tensions between them. Monroe though seems to be the dominant one.

He also always wants to go out. The previous owner lived in a house before she moved to an apartment. I am trying to keep him indoors but he always begs. I sometimes let him go in the hallway but no longer outside. He has access to my balcony though.

I don't know what to do anymore about the spraying, A friend thinks he might need more space (I have a one bedroom apartment) and therefore will never stop. Should I find a new home for him? Should I persist?

Thanks!

Space shouldn't be an issue, because you can give the cats vertical space with cat trees, shelves, tops of cabinets, etc.. Are you still using the Feliway? That can take a while to work.

I stopped using Feliway because it didn't help with the spraying, but after I read your message I realized that it did help reduce tensions between the 2 cats. Particularly my other cat seems less stressed. So I've started using it again.

Do you know though how many plug-ins are best? My living room is about 300 square feet. Do I need 1 or 2?

A vet friend also told me about Clomicalm. This medication is usually used for separation anxiety in dogs, but can be efficient in urine marking in male cats. Has anyone tried that?

Thanks for the link by the way!
